Yeah, that's how most debates work. People with different opinions on two opposite sides.

You're saying races with low gravity avoid explosions by being above them? What. You're telling me a race with low grav is going jump over undead / flame pred and kill them from above? You're going to need to explain this point because I don't see any feasible argument from this. Also, like before, I'm almost 100% sure its literally ranged based, as in the explosions radiates out spherically with diminishing damage over distance. I could be wrong, but it seems pointless to have an individual check for the z-axis to calculate damage to someone.

You're like the people who read news headlines and freak out without reading the actual article.

Imperium - "I don't think its very fun/enjoyable to kill someone just for them to die and insta kill you"
You - No dude, just play pudge or infected
Imperium - "especially if you werent involved the fight but die from an explosion through a wall/floor"
You - Bash them from far away

If you type in racetop10 goddang, you'll see my name, but realistically when was the last time you've seen me play it?

    Thanks

uh, no. It's because you decided to quote me and make a point from it. I can reiterate my reiterate

Just because you're trying to justify not nerfing flame pred's explosion doesn't make your reasoning any less flawed. To preface this, I don't think anything should be nerfed since the server will complain about anything and everything. Obviously exceptions can be made for things that are straight imba.

As far I know, explosions are calculated based on pure range. Explosions not going through floors / ceilings are literally because they're too far away. This is literally the entire reason for people being triggered on crackhouse, because stalker kills them from the first floor. I don't see your point of low grav races having a huge or any sort of advantage

To your point of 'explosions should go through walls', HE shrapnel should go through most walls, but they don't. Why? Because its balanced that way for CSGO. And if you're bringing up big explosions go through walls, they go through all walls regardless of material. Afaik steel walls are pretty resilient.

You can try to argue the whole bash / root point, but that's almost moot too. You would have to root them far enough away (which I don't even think it's possible with the new root range for night elf), and then move away if they weren't already on the cusp of your root range. What are you going to do? Not shoot them, move away and then kill them? If it's undead, they would just shoot you while you tried to move away.

You bring up Angel of Light pretty often, but I don't think I've ever seen you on that race. You're saying you survive most explosions unless you're at 10 to 20 health. iirc, explosions are 200+ damage when you're next to them (I'm pretty sure I've seen 250+) which means you would need like 40 health or even more. You can try to argue the whole infected / pudge point again, but that's not even what the original thread was about. Can't just bring up arbitrary points to argue something that's irrelevant.

ANYWAYS, tl;dr - you're gonna need some better points if you want to defend your favorite race. To reiterate, I think everything is fine as is, but he decided to quote me so

And as I was stating (if you read all my examples) angel of light with 80% resistance does a fair amount block out damage. I rarely die to scrouge while directly beside them on explosion death. The only time it happens is when I am at around 10 or 20 hp. I also stated there are races designed around tanking massive damage by health alone (infected/pudge to name a couple) which they themselves are affected by a race with a high dps.

(I do apologize if this was supposed to be humor)
I never understand that logic, "make it line of sight". If it is a big explosion then naturally it should go through walls (and yes technically the walls should be destroyed). Yes dying to a stray explosion is upsetting, but war 3 has such a variety of races and in addition you can see who is playing what race, you usually can be prepared or cautious of a possible explosion. Also a lot of explosion races goes through walls but not floors or ceilings thus low gravity races have a huge advantage.

Shadow reacted to Serif The Sheriff in Human Marine team limit
This has been an expertise for awhile, there are quite a few people on the server who have dealt with it, but it was back when hardly anyone played the race and only one or two people had the expertise so it wasn't that big of an issue to deal with. We now have 5 or so people who have been playing the race on a more regular basis and who purposely try to get on teams together to play in a group with 3 of those people for sure having the expertise.

This ^^^ is the exact opposite of what an expertise should be. Expertises were meant to be small little bonuses that players got for dedicating time to a race they enjoy. And there are definitely a lot of races that have some expertises that don't fit that, but making the argument that the expertise is extremely powerful and talking about how it changes the way the race is played so much you give more reason for something to be done about the expertise.

I completely disagree with this, it's not that it's a unique mechanic to Marine that people just need to learn to deal with. We are all very aware of what the race does, we knew about this before you played on this server and before you played the race, we just never had so many people playing the race and using the expertise together. Cache is a perfect example, we had as many people playing counters to marine as possible, but with 3 marines each with the expertise and all being supported by Holy Paladin and Priest, it's not that easy to shut down that comp. The races that counter respawns have a hard time keeping up with that many respawns, and even a race that would counter marine can only do so much when there 3 of them being focused by support races. The T team had 6 people at one point actively trying to counter that comp but were still having a hard time doing it not because they don't understand the mechanic, but because it's a lot to deal with.

As stated above Expertises were always meant to be small bonuses, not huge buffs or things that change the way the race plays and that is exactly what the Marine expertise does. And there are a lot more races that get attacked for there expertises than you think, whether the expertise is good or not. Some just work really well with the race even if they aren't inherently strong. People complain about NE expertises all the time even though none of it's expertises are near as strong as some of the others on races. Meanwhile I think Naix has one of the top 5 strongest ones because of how well it works for it race and almost no one ever complains about that one. It's not a case of marines expertise being noticeable moreso than other races expertises, it's the strength of the expertise and the way it changes the race PLUS the fact you can have multiple people running around with such a strong expertise. Also don't forget that you get to save minerals/respawns ACROSS MAPS and literally no other race gets to do anything like that.

Yet again to this point I will say that it's not a matter of players being unaware of the mechanic, and most people don't think that Marine is OP in and of itself. Marine has the most drastic change of strength for a race when it gets an expertise and that's what causes the issue here, especially when that strength is multiplied for every other marine you add to a team that has the expertise. You yourself recognize that most other respawn races are restricted to a lower amount than marine is AND they have less respawns than it does because of a single expertise.

The three player limit is 100% not unique to Marine, Star Lord is also a three per team limit and I am pretty sure there might be one more. I also don't think that they intentionally made it have that number of respawns because of Starcraft lore, you're thinking way too much into it.

I get wanting to defend your favorite race and not see it get nerfed or touched, I fight tooth and nail for Night Elf almost every single time someone has asked for a nerf or it has actually been nerfed, but you have to be able to recognize when something needs to be done. Players can't always dedicate themselves to watching your dead bodies in case of a respawn or focusing all of their attention on being ready for it and people don't want to always have to be playing a counter for an expertise rather than the race itself. The fact you think that people's issue is that they just don't understand the mechanic or aren't used to it is way off.

Human Marine is able to utilize his expertise in a unique way, and players aren't used to it.

The ability to hold a respawn until you decide to use it is extremely powerful. While he's dead the Human Marine is able to view both enemies and allies position, and is generally given a huge amount of information to work with. This, combined with good death positioning, and the general tankiness and DPS output of the race, allows him to quickly respawn and kill an unsuspecting player. As Serif stated, I respawned approx. 4 times. In those four times there were at least 3~ players on the bombsite expect during the last and maybe second to last respawn. After the first or even the second respawn you would think somebody would watch for another, but they mostly didn't. The enemy team almost all stared at the bomb after every respawn. This is not a balance issue, this is an example of players who simply aren't used to dealing with this mechanic.

This sort of thing happens when players face a mechanic they're not familiar with. Take a new player and throw him against most of the races in War3. Suicide bombs, Bashing, Evasion, Increased HP. All of these mechanics are new to the player and he's unsure of how to deal with it, but over time he's able to learn what races do, and respond accordingly if he chooses to do so. This is another example of players learning to fight against a mechanic that's unique to Human Marine. There's a variety of ways to deal with respawning opponents, even some counters, but those counters don't necessarily stop it every single time. The Mirage incident is a highlight of what Human Marine is capable of if players aren't careful.

Expertise's in of themselves are something that boost the effectiveness of a race, and the only reason Human Marine's expertise is getting picked on is the noticeable, powerful effect it has. Other races have ridiculously strong expertise, or multiple expertise', but due to the subtle nature of them they're mostly unnoticed by a majority of players.

A variety of factors contributed to this one incident: players that were unaware of the mechanic, the Human Marine's killing potential, and the amount of time and effort put into saving up the minerals. Human Marine is a really basic, but strong race. This makes it easy to pick up and play, because of this players are claiming that it's "Overpowered" or "Noobish", but it's something easily dealt with when understood. As to whether there needs to be 3 Human Marines' on one team or not is debatable. Other respawning races are limited to 1-2 per team, but they respawn themselves and/or teammates, While Human Marines' can only respawn themselves, and this is still only after players have played the race enough to earn the expertise (which is about 10~ players at the moment). The three player limit is something unique to Human Marine as it represents the mass production of marines that happens often in Starcraft, and I think taking that away would somewhat diminish the feel of the race, but that's just my opinion.

    Also...

I'm the second highest Human Marine at level 180~ and I haven't gotten a second expertise yet, especially not one to increase the heat limit.

Minerals were just lowered like 2 days ago to 4 respawn cap.

To max out minerals (200) would take 25 kills or 50 assists (or some combination of the two).
This thread is essentially complaining about a scenario that can happen 1 round per map, at absolute maximum.

I propose we re-instate 500 minerals but limit respawns to 1-2 times per round, I don't see a problem with being able to respawn and save respawns throughout, it's a cool ability, and I love to play Human Marine... Alot. However, I agree that respawning over twice in 1 round via a respawn that allows you to effectively ghost all enemy locations, and respawn when no ones looking is a bit overpowered. But at 200 minerals, I max out in a map or 2 and feel obligated to use them rather than save them. I loved that I could build up a huge nest egg then use it over time to my advantage, and feel like 200 has significantly stunted that.

Shadow reacted to o4Leafo in WAR3 SO Situation *Please Read*
    Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

Recently as a war3 community we are all noticing a large amount of SOs getting promoted for our server (which is an amazing thing). We believe that the individuals being selected for SO are not an ideal fit for the community. In our opinions an SO should be an active member of the server and not a show up once or twice a week for 5 min to 1 match. We understand that an SO position usually requires an applicants request, but this has not been providing positive results. We rarely see the majority of the current SO WAR3 members in the server and we would like to request that the SOs are re-evaluated based on what they will provide in the leadership position. It is understood that it may be the case of not enough members putting in an application for the role. A suggestion is that the current, active SOs for the war3 server, are able to provide a recommendation of the most adequate current SG members of the server for the position without having to submit a request. By viewing all potential nominations the current SOs can debate among themselves on which they believe will fit into the role of SO the best. After selecting a few nominations that they believe are capable they can contact these specific members and ask if they would take the position without having to jump through the hoops of the current application process. As a community we believe it is fairly obvious which members should be revoked SO, and we believe that there is no need to point them out individually on this thread.

*I am not sure if it would be a good idea for the server population to have a voice as well, because we are the individuals that have the greatest understanding of who would be an ideal fit. Also an SO should never be given a postion by having "hook-ups" or people that have it given because of their relationship with certain individuals*

    The most appreciated current SO:
    Man-Bear-Pig

    Server populations suggested SO:
sG | ۩۞۩ Serif The Sheriff

Thank you for taking the time to read this and understanding the current situation!

    Respectfully,
    The WAR3 Playerbase

*This is not directly my opinion (everything that is written I made sure were the beliefs of the general populations). I was told many times to post these server wide views on the forums to get the word out, but many don't have faith that it will even change anything. I am always asking what players opinions are on how the server is being run and this was one of the biggest responses. I just wanted to do my part and get the word out. If anyone has any questions or statements I will most likely not reply because this was the opinion of the vast majority of the playerbase and I am not willing to speak for them on matters I have not addressed. If you are curious about the subject just join the server and ask everyone and you will receive responses from the direct population on this issue. Thank You*

I think it’s fair to say get your playtime up but some of us our busy but also some SO’s are on different hours of the day and don’t see you. This isn’t meant to be rude but you are going out on a limb against SO’s when you have no idea what could be happening in their life. I think the managers of the SO’s are doing what they think is right. I wouldn’t doubt if they contact people if they need more playtime.

Hey so over the past whiles on the server while playing JB i have come across what some people think is gray area with the motd simon says game. This gray area refers to direct orders given during the game.

    For example-
Simon- Pappa Goose Take 2 staps back
    Pappa Goose - doesnt move
Simon - Bang bang bang "Dead Goose"

But simon never said Detours or delays and at the start of the game simon says do all commands in place. I talked to mark from facebook about it and he said that they must say no dets/delays but i would like to know if there is a way we can either have that changed in motd or actually have all staff enforce it cause i have seen staff let it happen and ignore the complaints.

Not here to call people out on it just want the simple issue to go away thanks for reading please check my post on a potential map im creating atm and leave comments, suggestions and criticism below.

All the servers are now successful compared to when I joined staff and JB was the only CSGO server working. Minigames since the introduction of MG/Deathrun is doing well. ZE is now top 10 in all of CSGO, Warcraft exploded and is doing great, WCS is in development, and Surf is increasing. Jailbreak is Jailbreak and everything I needed to do is done. Thanks to everyone who contributed especially the SOs who helped populate and regulate the servers. Also, thanks to all the engineers who decided to help me learn the useless skills of coding and server management especially, drunkula, you whiny little bitch.

Also we should stop setting these up for a single weekend... I'd rather see a throughout the week with finals on the weekend, or multiple weekend tourney so more people can make games without dedicating an entire weekend. People having to do things like ask off work is stupid (and in my opinion nobody should do for a gaming community tourney, but hey that's your choice)...

Shadow got a reaction from Firefighter_DK in Since ZE got deleted
The map size thing is not an easy fix. I previously asked every mapper to assist, but it is a very long project that no one was willing to do. This is not the reason the server flopped otherwise every ZE server would of flopped and they didn't. I do not know what fix you want. There is no fix. Valve added a hard download limit. The only way to fix the issue is to reduce the map size. I brought up two or three different ways this could of been done, but each way required a lot of time on a mapper/s part. I was unwilling to learn how to do it myself as I was already engaged in other projects. If other servers are playing these maps as I said then someone can grab them and give them to us to put on the server, but as far as I know no other server is hosting the big ZE maps anymore.

The problem was the lack of support of active players on ZE. No was committing time to actively populate the server. Sure about twice-three times a week one or two SOs would jump on for two hours and the server would do well for a few hours. What needed to be done was to have people constantly going in the server spamming invites to the ZE group and friends every time the server pop started to die.  That is all I did previously to get the server in the top 3. I went into ZE spammed invited my friends until there were about five of us. Next, I spammed the ZE steam group and encouraged every random to invite their steam friends. Anytime the server hit around 10 people I would jump back in there and do it again.

If you are referring to a few months ago when the server was broken and constantly crashing that was before I came back on staff. They were having a technical issues with conflicting plugins. The crashes you are talking about I never was able to replicate making it impossible for me or anyone else to attempt to fix it.

This is the problem with any new server.  It needs people 7 days a week to populate a server for a few weeks before it can sustain itself on new players.
