Rootbeer got a reaction from KiLLeR in Legendary system concept
Hiya guys, thought I'd share an idea that I was hyped about working on. I'm calling it the Legendary system, modeled similarly to World of Warcraft's legendary equipment system. Equipping a Legendary will alter a race in a way slightly, much like an expertise. Unlike expertise though, you can acquire and store a currency called Shards in order to unlock a Legendary and potentially have one unlocked for a race you have at level 0. Each race will have a handful of Legendaries; I'm thinking 3 each for starters. Players are limited to one Legendary item equipped at a time.
The main way of acquiring a Legendary would be simply playing the game: obtaining a kill (higher chance if headshot) or planting/defusing/hostaging/winning the round/healing as Trinity+Holy Paladin+Priest will each have a very small % to obtain a random Legendary. A smaller chance will give you a Shard instead, which will allow you to pick which Legendary you get. Shards could be given away freely every 500 total levels or so. Mabey a present could even drop at a low chance on kill similar to eggs/pumpkins, which yield either a legendary or a Shard. Crazy freeforall rush for the loot!

Here's some quick visuals. The Legendaries menu will be brought up by typing "legendary" into chat, similar to changerace.

Then, selecting a race will reveal you the Legendary available to it and what each does. Selecting the Artifact will then equip it if you have it and then close the menu (similar to picking a race). Here's an example screen of someone who owns two Undead Scourge Legendaries(notice the third is greyed out because he doesn't have it -- if he had a Shard then the text would be red and selecting it would consume the shard and unlock it for him).

I like the system for two reasons. One: It adds another layer of depth into the game, something else to strive for when killing people. Currently, the two things players can obtain by playing the game are server rank and levels -- this adds another reward system to constantly fuel that desire for dopamine.
Two: The system will certainly add a small level of powercreep but will be a great way to finetune older races into importance and we'll finally see some races being played again. Additionally, it adds a small level of customization into the game. Our diehard Trickster Assassin or Shadow Lurker fans can choose which route they want to specialize in to suit their playstyles.

The shard system also allows additional p a y 2 w i n options in addition to our current ones. Supporters can have an increased drop rate for legendaries. Players could also flatout buy Shards, similar to buying credits for other our pay2win servers like JB and ZE. We're gonna be rich.

Please share thoughts! I was excited to work on the system myself but wanted to create a race first in order to prove to myself that I could code. I'm busy & putting it off for now but if anyone wants to start refining/working on this (if greenlit by Engies), go right ahead. We could also have a War3 event to kickstart the system with increased drop rates for the duration of the event. Events are always fun.

So I got to thinking last night and today at work how the hero race idea could be implemented in a way that would be in the scope of fair and balanced and not rely on luck or player skill gaining access to the races but a actual built in plugin that will monitor the server and its players and keep track of the factors that allow a player the ability to use a hero race and a system to reward other players for killing a player on the race and the extra benefits a player would have for playing a hero race other than just trying to play a powerful race for a round so I hope you guys enjoy my idea's and concept for the "Hero" plugin.

The plugin is a point reward system. At the start of every round a player is not flagged afk or in spectate the player receives 1 loyalty point. These points have a 100 point cap. So the base minimum requirement for the plugin to activate is for the server population to be at 6 players none of which can be flagged afk or in spectate. Players then will start to receive their loyalty points. The points being gained this way makes it fair for all players to gain points so every player good and bad has the chance at gaining the currency. This will stop players from throwing rounds or actively trying to lose to gain access to the Hero system Dakka mentioned. Each player has access to the !hero command. Players can spend 20 loyalty points and select from the pool of heroes and once selected they are locked into that race for the next round COLORED TEXT warning will go out to both teams letting them know that someone on their team/other team is going to spawn next round as a hero character. Once a player on a team has selected and locked in to being a hero !hero command becomes disabled for the rest of the round for that team.

REWARDS: For killing a player on a hero race the killer is rewarded a bonus 500 exp and assists are 150xp. Hero races by default are maxed level but still gain levels like a normal race and exp tracker keeps track of each players hero's exp. When a player on a hero race levels up that player is given 1 level in the exp bank.

HERO RACE: So what I wanted to do to start with the hero races was to use the original four races to start the Human Alliance, Orc, Undead, Elven. King Anduin , Grommash , Sylvanas ,  and Tyrande. What I wanted to do to simply create the heros and make them strong and still keep their roots was to give the four original races an extra skill line called ( Heroic ) This Hero is immune to magic damage , ultimates , fall damage , immobilization effects , burning , and has 50% damage mitigation. The heroic mod could be a copy paste skill that could be added onto any race to make it a Hero race in the future or as the ENG see fit can make it into their own. Anyways this is my idea of a rewarding and "balanced" hero system were every player gets a chance to be the hero from the good players to the bad ones.

DONOR BONUS: I felt since we have a donor system why not add one more perk to being a donor. Donors get double points and double rewards from the hero system. EX: 2 points a 1k exp for killing a hero and 300 exp for assists. I feel the 1 level in the bank on a level up is fair across the board even for donors.

Tbh creating a notable character from the universe will simply be a combination of races and abilities and I dunno if we want that. For example, Muradin Bronzebeard would simply be Human Alliance with Orc's Reincarnate ability instead of invisibility. IDEK what his ultimate would be, since all the dwarven heroes in Warcraft 3 had the same thing ult, Avatar, and it's not relatable to him at all. Even in the games, each character is simply a beefed up unit of a class (Uther is simply a Paladin in Warcraft 3, Arthas is simply a skinned Paladin and later Deathknight, Jaina is simply another mage in a WoW instance). Honestly I just roleplay as Lord Garithos from Warcraft3 whenever I play and scorn anyone who's not a Human Alliance. I do think you're right about our server becoming less of a Warcraft server and more of a Superhero server though. I'm just waiting for a Morpheus race with skinned dual mp7s tbh.

In a similar vein, when I was in my coding mood I came up with a few ideas that I wanted to propose to our engies but wanted to fully refine them before doing so: "hero races" was one of them, where they were limited to one hero per team, accessible at any level, beefy and easy to kill with/lots of skills (though not totally broken of course). The idea was to help newbies out or anyone having a bad game and playing one required a bad KD/less team round wins and/or playtime was limited to a few rounds per map. Idea requires refining like I said but it's been a while since I've been in that coding mood so it's on the backburner.

Our Warcraft 3 server is fine how it is, though however, I would like to see some ACTUAL Warcraft 3 heroes added to the server. I understand that the Warcraft mod is about having a set of abilities and not about the lore of the game itself, but it just doesn't feel right to ignore the large, untapped potential content that's in the actual game and its expansion. In just Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne, we get heroes from all across the Warcraft universe: Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms, Outland, Northrend, and even on some islands. In this post, I'll list off a ton of potential additions to the server and hopefully inspire some people to go out and write up races for use on the server. In red will be heroes being unused, in yellow heroes that are kinda used, and in green are heroes that are being used currently.

I will update the list and link the hero name to your post, so feel free to pick one and get creative. I would recommend reading up on how the hero worked in-game to get a sense on how their abilities should be like on the server.

Here's a list of all the NAMED hero units in Warcraft 3 and its expansion:
    Arthas Menethil (Before Frostmourne)
    Uther Lightbringer
Jaina Proudmoore - We have an "Archmage Proudmoore" just not named Jaina.
    Antonidas
    Muradin Bronzebeard
    Garithos
    Lady Vashj
    Kael'thas Sunstrider
    Akama
    Tyrande Whisperwind
    Shandris Feathermoon
    Malfurion Stormrage
    Cenarius
    Illidan Stormrage
Maiev Shadowsong - We have a "Warden" but no indicator it's Maiev specifically
    Ner'Zhul (The Lich King)
    Arthas Menethil (After Frostmourne)
    Kel'Thuzad
Anub'arak - We have a "Crypt Lord" but no indicator it's Anub'arak specifically
    Sylvanas Windrunner
    Varimathras
    Mal'Ganis
    Tichondrius
    Archimonde
    Mannoroth
    Azgalor
    Kil'jaeden
    Magtheridon
    Balnazzar
    Thrall
    Grom Hellscream
    Sen'Jin
    Cairne Bloodhoof
    Rexxar
    Rokhan
Chen Stormstout - We have a "Brewmaster Monk" but no indicator it's Chen Stormstout
    Vol'Jin
    Gul'dan

Look at all of those! Here's a ton of characters with importance in the lore that can be used in the server.

Now here's the list of all the neutral and racial heroes that you found on non-campaign maps:
    Naga Sea Witch
    Dark Ranger
    Pandaren Brewmaster
    Beastmaster
    Pit Lord
    Goblin Tinker
    Firelord
    Goblin Alchemist
    Paladin
Archmage - We have three "Archmages"
    Mountain King
    Blood Mage
    Blademaster
    Far Seer
    Tauren Chieftan
    Shadow Hunter
    Demon Hunter
    Keeper of the Grove
    Priestess of the Moon
    Warden
    Death Knight
    Dread Lord
    Lich
    Crypt Lord

A ton more green than the last list, but still plenty of unused content!

Though to be honest, you could make a hero from any character in the Warcraft universe, even from Warcraft 1 & 2 or even further into the future than where we are now!
(Yes, Dakka made a big post )

Rootbeer reacted to Karma in Rust Update 5/4/17!!! Fucking Hype
No update video by FooRun as of yet, but here's a look at the devblog for this week:

    http://playrust.com/devblog-158/

Research Tables are back! For what? For turning scrap into components. You can get scrap from breaking barrels or looting boxes.
Scraps increase probability of success in creating components, so the more the better.

Most importantly as @Rootbeer predicted, the game changes today, in a major way. Directly from the devblog:
    "Raid Towers
The first major change is that you can now place all building blocks of the twig building tier inside other player’s cupboard radius without being authorized. This obviously opens the door for raid towers, dramatically changing the building and raiding meta of the game."

    and this:

    "Ladders
In addition to making raid towers first class citizens I’ve enabled ladder placement inside the cupboard radius. Ladders are supposed to be used as an alternative for boosting or be used in the construction of a raid tower. Ladders now have more forgiving placement rules, even allowing you to attach them to the edge of floors. They can also be climbed from both sides and be traversed around to switch sides. Climbing a building with ladders should involve some risk but also be a relatively cheap way to exploit weaknesses in a base design."

This doesn't mean your base is doomed, because now turrets can see and shoot through building blocks.

There's a lot more in today's update and I'll add on when I get off work, but these were the most game-changing updates we've seen in a very long time.

    thanks @Avenger

POTENTIAL HUGE RUST UPDATE COMING SOON HYPE HYPE HYPE

    With this change, you can build twig foundations/walls and ladders inside of someone's yard, potentially next to their house to climb up to their roof where you can easily blow down into. T h i s  c h a n g e s  e v e r y t h i n g ! I might hop in on the next wipe that this change occurs on, raiding's been due for a update and it's  f i n a l l y  h e r e  b o i z !

Just wait out the 6 months and appeal then, most first time offenders that I've seen have been approved pretty fast. From what I've seen of you, you're not a negative part of our population so an unban should be ezpz. The ban's mainly to show that we have 0 tolerance of cheating on our servers.
