1) Turn the air conditioning on if it is blowing hot air then your fan is working correctly and you need freon or there is a leak. If it is not blowing then there could be many issues so let me know if it is not blowing air. Hopefully it is blowing air and if it is hot air then get an A/C gauge to check to see if there is freon circulating. If there isn't then my advice is to get UV freon which will go through your system and spray UV paint where it leaks out. Which will mark the line if it is broken. I do not think that a rat chewed through the line, so if you do want to know whats wrong you need to post more information about the problem.
2) What is your system? Cassette player I am guessing if that is the case then get an cassette audio jack which is just a tape that goes into the player that has an aux cord attached. If your cassette player doesn't work then you will have to do some tinkering and the easiest (I think) is to install an adapter behind the stereo.
