Rayne, I understand your frustration. I'm sorry you feel this way, however, I would like to note how throughout the month I was monitored and tested by the engineers. I had to prove myself before I could be given the position. This is a position that requires a special skill set that I was able to display. I plan on doing my best to support the sG community in every way I'm able to. I wasn't expecting everyone to be entirely on-board with this, but I do hope to be able to prove myself to all of you as well.

Its not an opinion its the truth. I'm sure dave is fine. I never talked to him personally. But the fact we give engineer to anyone that has the skill for it immediately leaves room for one person we don't know that well to go off his rocker and cause some harm. He deserves engineer definitely but if he wanted to fuck with sG he would have the perfect opportunity and with hardly any time commitment to boot. I think it's just the fact it's so immediate and despite the engineers watching these people over a month that's prob not enough time to get a certainty its not some dude who thinks it'd be funny to change the servers code for a laugh. Or some dude from a competing clan trying to one up his friends mass freekills on jb. It's the internet there really is people who would go full retard like that. I'm sure Dave is chill its just the policy and the fact its public knowledge anyone that's not overtly autistic with coding skills has a good chance at staff.My original post was just that that could be a problem not that it shouldn't be done necessarily.

Which is why I kept my opinion focused on what I do understand, my opinion is based on giving out staff positions to people we know little about. I wouldn't expect you to understand considering you have no idea of the past problems we've had with this type of thing.

Eddy isn't an idiot and isn't going to hand box access to someone who is going to tamper with it. Regardless of that, the kid doesn't even have full access to everything anyways.

There is no argument to be had, I'm stating my opinion based off of what I have seen in the past. Also, as previously stated, a month is not enough time to know the intentions of anybody, what ever they might be.

I am the one who requested he be brought in, after fairly involved testing. No one really had access to do significant damage except myself, JCS and Jason. I control access per user. Dave has limited access right now to allow him to establish himself. In fact he already identified 1 significant problem and resolved another. We as staff are concerned about the same things you oldfags are and we show our due diligence. Just because members don't see this or even understand the security in place across the servers is not indicative of any sort of failure to screen on our part.

To the others, rayne and ordinary bring up valid points from some things that happened in the past. However, things are managed very differently now than previously to eliminate these issues. For the first year of my staff silk I heard was staff complaining about the lack of access they had, now it's pretty smooth.

As I stated quite clearly, my opinion is based on a jaded opinion of past issues. One being, not that any of you would remember, was a member being bunked up to JCS, two days later giving out the rcon password and having an entire wcs server banned and levels reset.

If you guys know him then fine, might have been nicer for us paranoid old fags to have a little background info on the newest member of staff to our long time serving community, rather than just dropping a thread saying "alright boys, here's the new staff guy none of you know, enjoy".

Just saying.

Edit: My reasoning for being jaded, from my example, is that I got the blame for this and was temporarily perma banned from UV until someone took the time to actually listen to logic.

Agree'd, until Driz came in here I was quite skeptical. I'll ease off now but I stick by my point regardless.
