Republicans give up on Obamacare repeal

So in one of the arguably most embarrassing legislative  losses in modern US history the Republicans were unable to repeal Obamacare despite having control of the government. I honestly don't think trump or the Republicans ever expected it to be repealed

Although Obamacare is by no means the best, they definitely didn't come up with a better plan to replace it. They had no chance at it without a seemingly better plan to take its place.

I'd be surprised if they don't try to come up with something in the future. They said they're done with working on it for now, but I'd be real surprised if (in the background) they're still trying to come up with something, and then in the future, attempt to repeal and replace again.

Health Care is socialist after all. If you had money you could afford the doctor so why don't the poor people just die already. How can they even live being poor honestly?

TBH the plan they proposed was not the one I was told about.  The plan they mentioned was actually a pretty good replacement, with it basically still keeping people insured and helping them out.  This new plan seems to be rushed.

Translation- I made it all up assuming the Republicans would be able to accept their incompetence and not even try a repeal for over a year but they proved me wrong and let themselves go full cancer mode early .

It's more on congressional republicans rather than Trump for not coming up with a plan other than promising to repeal Obamacare.  Paul Ryan introduces the replacement out of the blue and tries to get it passed three weeks later.  If this failure is on anyone its Paul Ryan.  

 

Besides it has only been two months and Trump is making efforts to fulfill promises he made on his campaign.  He has got a four year term to accomplish his agenda.

You realize trump was the one who said they had to rush the vote ? It's at least partially trumps fault. Maybe if he actually cared he'd be working more and golfing and playing with truck horns less

That's the problem right there and the reason it wasn't passed, they rushed too quick into it. I understand Obamacare definitely has its flaws, but I don't think it's bad enough to where Republicans needed to rush into it so quickly like they did. Blame Trump or Ryan, I don't care, fact is they didn't get it worked out this go around. I think they just need to take a step back, focus on other issues, then maybe in the future come back to the issue of changing up how we do healthcare in America.

Republicans had 7 years to think of a better health care proposal than the ACA, and a majority in both congressional houses with which to pass it. Zero votes from Democrats aside, their failure to pass the bill came down to the growing divide within the party. At last canvas, something like 34 Republicans were leaning 'No' on the bill. This tells me that the party may be in for a split or platform realignment soon. Hell, both parties are overdue for a realignment anyways.

much like obama, they poorly planned the changes to healthcare. Without limits on what doctor and hospitals can bill, our healthcare system will remain fucked. 

 

here's an example of why:

 

took wife to ER due to symptoms of pneumonia. Got put in room, nurse visited and stated the doctor wanted blood work and a piss test. 3 hours later, i went to ask when the tests would happen. The ER doctor who requested the items had left for the day, provided no info to any of the nursing staff and the room was showing as empty.  We finally got 2 pills from another nurse and were discharged.

 

2 weeks later, this doctor bills our insurance for 1173$. the doctor never saw us, forgot we were there and horribly failed at her job. My insurance offered to pay 50$ for the service. Doctor took the 50 and billed us the remaining 1123.  We called our insurance, and luckily, they paid the balance. The fact remains that as long as a doctor can choose to bill whatever they want (hospitals in general do this in the US, they bill a completely different amount based on what insurance you have, in fact, prior to ACA, i would just claim i didn't have dental insurance because the no-insurance bill rate was less than my copay) will present an issue regardless of what healthplan is forced upon us.

 

My thoughts: setup guidelines for hospital/doctor billing practices FIRST, then figure out how to make healthy 18-25year olds pay for the medical expenses of 90 year olds.

I will add to @driz story as I have went to the future to see how it turns out. In 3 years they will get a call from a collection company demanding the $1123. The insurance company never paid the balance. The amount was just placed in dispute with no action from hospital or insurance company. After an audit of the hospitals accounts they found the $1123 balance and since it was so old sold it off to a collection agency.
