Dojima 7619 Posted November 3, 2012 ahahah, yeah W8 is pretty terrible. Should have just left the Metro bs for RT. 1 Taboo reacted to this
dormantlemon 219 Posted November 3, 2012 ehh i personally quite like windows 8. With the exception of the start menu, theres not a lot of Metro stuff to be seen if you dont use the (frankly shit) apps. Its largely just windows 7 with a new start menu, less transparency and faster boot times. Been happily using it for over 2 months now. 7 was better though just to be clear, although honestly not by a lot.
Dojima 7619 Posted November 3, 2012 If they had an option to enable the start bar and didn't have a disconnect between programs launched in Metro and programs launched on the desktop, it'd be nice. 1 dormantlemon reacted to this
Velo 2077 Posted November 3, 2012 (edited) Win 8 is pretty fucking useless unless you have a tablet or a touch screen device. Even if you can unlock the task bar again, IDT there is even a start button anymore. One of the win8 alpha builds was better than 7 and 8 speed-wise imo.It was after they got rid of most of the legacy shit, and before all the metro ui crap was added. Booted to desktop in seconds. Iirc, it was the one with the blue crossword background. Edited November 3, 2012 by Velosaraptor
Vuppe 5 Posted November 3, 2012 I got a super early beta of Windows8, before the wireless network stuff worked properly (i.e. it told me to enter a 12 letter passkey and stopped accepting data after 8 characters so I could never connect to the internet).8 might not be popular now, but as more and more laptops become touchscreen and more people purchase WindowsRT/WIndows8 tablets their master plan will be made clear. It's actually a brilliant move, to harmonize the mobile and desktop OS.Eventually, when a tablet is a regular school tool you buy your kid every year like paper and pencil are now, Windows8 will become clear.Until then, people actually have to learn to use it. Change. Scary, huh? Like crying about the new Facebook interface every time it comes out.
Dojima 7619 Posted November 3, 2012 RT has the potential to be great, but for a desktop, it just doesn't work as well as it could.
ElectronicDrug 7496 Posted November 3, 2012 I use windows 8 at work with office 2013. I like it. I don't ever use my start menu anyway, I always hit winkey and type what I need, so no big difference to me.
Windmill 1521 Posted November 3, 2012 It's cool. Everyone knows every other Microsoft OS sucks dick. I'm sure Windows 9 will be great.
Dyscivist 5686 Posted November 3, 2012 Windows 8 is utter garbage.
Carl Sagan 2577 Posted November 3, 2012 This works both ways right? are tablets running a full version of win7 under their dumbass touch interface? 1 Dyscivist reacted to this
Moose 4890 Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) Idk how I like it.. I played around with the beta a few months ago, and it was really different. Although I'll probably get it this week, only because the university gives it out free to students...I don't ever use my start menu anyway, I always hit winkey and type what I need, so no big difference to me.And that's a very good point. But I may think of getting a touch screen because it seems like it'll work better with it. Depends on how well this works when it comes out...[media=] Edited November 4, 2012 by Moose678
blob 1985 Posted November 4, 2012 I use windows 8 at work with office 2013. I like it. I don't ever use my start menu anyway, I always hit winkey and type what I need, so no big difference to me.I do to, but there is a bit of a disconnect with Win 8, as usually if I want Network and Sharing Center, I type it and have to click the settings button on the right, instead of just hitting enter. Too much mouse moving on Win8.Aside from UI it is a much more solid OS than Windows 7. Office 2013 is great too. Also, Storage Spaces is pretty neat, using it now. It's pretty much ZFS for Windows. 1 ElectronicDrug reacted to this
