it's not that they monitor it, but they have like trackers of public torrent sites, so they know when you download from it. mostly just new and popular stuff (aka new games/movies). if you read the comments before you download atleast one will mention if it's being tracked or not.

Dude, they've been cracking down on torrentors for like a year now.

What they do is look for people who tend to download a lot of stuff (ie. they take up alot of bandwidth) and see what they are downloading, if it is sketchy or illegal they can warn you.

They also are known to slow down your connection or completely deny you acces to the internet.

They do not monitor it. Torrents are not very secure if you do not have a proxy.

The MPAA and organizations like monitor popular torrents and copy the IP's. Than they send the IP's to the ISP.

Basically this is how they catch torrenters but not others.

Well Comcast does not monitor what you're download persay (they have been known for doing this with out warning), but they do pay attenetion to how much bandwidth you use.

Use to much, they checkout what you're doing with it.

email and stuff, I guess (this is stuff from BBC, I'm not going to look for the article, as it was quite awhile ago).

They start to slow your internet speed and interrupt your connection.
