War3 Ultimate Balance Patch - 4/13/2015

YOU GET A BALANCE CHANGE! YOU GET A BALANCE CHANGE! EVERYBODY GETS A BALANCE CHANGE!

Based on server stats, playtesting, and player feedback from some of the most active players on the server, we present the Ultimate Balance Patch. Changing over 90 races, many in tiny ways and others much bigger, we hope to bring a whole new host of races into more active play. This patch is intended to be focused on buffs, though a few key OP races will be nerfed. We hope this will make the server more fun for everyone. These changes will be monitored and if necessary reverted over the next few weeks.
Feel free to post feedback in this thread. It's always appreciated, so long as it's constructive. Jokes are welcome but blatant griefing will not be tolerated.

Changes below are alphabetized.


A-F

Adventurer

  • Bonus damage decreased from 9 to 8.
  • Movement speed decreased from 34% to 30%.
  • Invisibility increased from 50 to 60%.

Anti-Mage

  • Ultimate damage cap increased from 50 to 70.
  • Beam drawn when blinking removed.
  • Ultimate cooldown on round start reduced from 30 to 15 seconds.

Archimonde the Defiler

  • Ultimate cooldown reduced from 20 to 15 seconds.
  • Fire rescaled. Deals 2 damage a tick, down from 3, but ticks more, resulting in the same damage but a longer burn, impairing your enemy's vision.

Archmage Proudmoore

  • Increased bonus HP from 25 to 35.

Berserker the Impatient

  • Long Jump power increased slightly.

Blademaster

  • Loses 10% chance to respawn each death in a round. This is calculated as: 55% chance to respawn, respawn once, lose 10% chance, 55-5.5=49.5%, NOT 55-10=45%.

Blood Mage

  • Ultimate will now heal you for up to 10 instead of 30 if you lack the cash required to sacrifice.
  • Banish duration increased from 0.2 seconds to 0.5 seconds.

Blood Hunter

  • Ultimate cooldown reduced from 20 to 15 seconds.

BLU Scout

  • Bonus HP increased from 15 to 25.
  • Ultimate evasion increased from 95 to 97%.
  • Ultimate movement speed increased from 25 to 30%.

Bulbasaur

  • Bonus damage increased from 5 to 6.
  • Life leech increased from 8% to 15%.

Cannibal

  • Invisibility increased from 60 to 75%.

Crypt Lord

  • Ultimate will no longer heal past 175.

Chronos

  • Now gains 33% evasion while in his ultimate. This evasion is independent of and procs separately from Rewind. The result is that a maxed Chronos will have 50% evasion in his ultimate (25% from rewind, if this fails, 33% of 75% = 25% additional evasion.)
  • Bash duration increased from 0.15 seconds to 0.4 seconds.

Dante

  • Increased heal-on-damage-taken from 6 to 7.
  • Decreased ultimate life leech to 25%.
  • Decreased ultimate damage reduction to 25%.

Default

  • Increased cash gain per round from $1500 to $2000.

Devil Servant

  • Life leech decreased from 30 to 25%.
  • Life regen decreased from 3.0 to 2.5 per second.
  • Cripple chance reduced from 40 to 20%.
  • Cripple duration reduced from 2.5 to 1.5 seconds.

Devious Flimflammer

  • Evasion increased from 15 to 20%.
  • Ability cooldown decreased from 2.5 to 2.0 seconds, duration is still 1.5 seconds.
  • Ultimate cooldown reduced from 20 to 15 seconds.

Displacer Beast

  • Life leech increased from 15 to 20%.

Duelist

  • Ultimate cooldown reduced from 5 seconds to 1 second.

This patch was apparently done some time ago. Did you know about it? I didn't.

Dwarf Scattergunner

  • Damage reduction during ultimate increased from 35 to 50%.

Dwarven Siege Tank

  • Increased explosion radius from 200 to 250 units.
  • Increased explosion damage from 25 to 30.

Elvish Enchanter

  • Increased ultimate healing from 15 to 25.

Flame Predator

  • Bonus HP increased from 40 to 50.
  • Burn chance increased from 30 to 40%.
  • Explosion radius increased from 375 to 400 units.

Frodo Baggins

  • Bonus health reduced from 60 to 50.

Frost Giant

  • Bonus damage increased from 6 to 24. (This is to counteract the shotgun damage nerf, where it only receives bonus damage once per shot.)

Fyndhorn Elder, Elvish Knight

  • Bonus movement speed reduced from 24 to 20%.

G-M

Goliath

  • During Pride, Goliath gains Battlecry's movement speed, regardless of the ability being active.
  • During Pride, Goliath gains 50% magic damage reduction.

Ghost

  • Shake duration reduced from 2.5 to 1.5 seconds.

Glockness Monster

  • Life leech increased from 25 to 30%.

Granthad, Divine Knight

  • Decreased invisibility on ultimate from 95 to 90%.

Gravitas

  • Increased movement speed from Slipspace from 40 to 50%.
  • Increased ultimate duration from 5 to 10 seconds.
  • Increased ultimate radius from 200 to 300 units.
  • Caused Force Spike to deactivate flying on flying races.
  • Kills gained by Force Spike fall damage are credited to Gravitas.

Hammerstorm

  • Increased movement speed from 125 to 130%.
  • Increased damage reduction from 20 to 25%.
  • Cleave distance increased from 150 to 250 units.
  • Cleave damage increased from 40 to 50%.

Hand of God

This race doesn't see a lot of play, but we feel that this is a result of the bugs surrounding Forward Slash rather than an issue with the race being weak. For this reason, rather than simply buffing a bug race, I have elected to leave this alone temporarily while we seek a solution to the Forward Slash problem. Thank you for your patience on this one.

Holy Juggernaut

  • Teleport speed increased slightly.
  • Restricted from buying Periapt of Health.

Holy Paladin

  • Damage to undead increased from 25 to 40%.

Human Alliance

  • Bash chance reduced from 25 to 20%.
  • Teleport cooldown on round start increased by 5 seconds.
  • Restricted from buying Periapt of Health.

Human General

  • Restricted from buying Periapt of Health.

Human Lawnmower

  • Movement speed increased from 50 to 60%.
  • Attack speed increased from 150 to 200%.
  • Flight time increased from 4 to 5 seconds.
  • #bufflawnmower

Infected

  • Restricted from buying Enchanted Chainmail.

Jarmen Kell, AK Sniper

  • Increased HP gain on kill from 10 to 30.
  • Greatly increased zoom potential. Magnify! Enhance!

Judge of Atlanta

  • Entangle duration reduced from 2.5 to 2.0 seconds.

Judge of Dynamis

  • Evasion reduced from 25 to 20%.

Keeper of the Grove

  • Ultimate slow reduced from 65% to 50%.

Keldon Warlord

  • Added a new skill explaining that Keldon has a passive silence aura.
  • Increased cash stolen on hit from $250 to $400.

Kil'jaeden the Deceiver

  • Ultimate heal increased from 5 to 10.
  • Ultimate cooldown reduced from 30 to 20 seconds.

Kirin-Tor Archmage

  • Burn damage increased from 20 to 25.

Kozu the Stalwart

  • Magic damage reduction reduced to 40%.
  • Bonus HP reduced to 35.

Luna Moonfang, the Moon Rider

  • Lucent Beam damage increased from 6-10 to 14-23.
  • Lucent Beam cooldown decreased from 3 to 2 seconds.
  • Ultimate deals 50% reduced Lucent Beam damage to compensate for the new values.

Machine Gunner

  • Damage reduction during ultimate increased from 50 to 60%.
  • Ultimate cooldown reduced to 1 second when activated, allowing you to deactivate after 1 second. After deactivation, takes 5 seconds before reactivation.

Master of GO (GodDang)

  • Increased movement speed from 20 to 25%.
  • Increased invisibility from 40 to 50%.
  • Ultimate has been doubled.

Master of Three (Vex)

  • Your extra bullets now deal 3 additional damage!

Master of War (steveand117)

  • Bonus damage increased from 20 to 30%.

Master Sniper

  • Ultimate will no longer heal past 150.

Methodical

  • HP loss per miss at max lowered from 2 to 1.
  • Maximum invisibility increased from 30 to 70%.
  • Movement speed on hit increased from 20 to 25%.

N-S

Nature Wisp

  • Evasion increased from 40 to 50%.
  • Delay on regeneration reduced from 5 to 4 seconds.

Night Elf

  • Entangling Roots now requires line of sight. Can still entangle multiple targets.
  • Entangling Roots duration decreased from 3 to 2.5 seconds at max rank.
  • Evasion increased from 20 to 25%.

Ogre Stonethrower

  • Bonus HP increased from 175 to 200.
  • Damage on grenade hit increased from 250 to 1050.

Orcish Chieftain

  • Increased shake duration from 0.5 to 0.75 seconds.
  • Increased respawn chance from 40 to 60%.

P250 Agent

  • Invisibility while stationary increased from 85 to 90%.

Paradox

  • Increased movement speed in burst from 20 to 30%.
  • Increased combo damage in burst from 8 to 10.
  • Decreased ultimate cooldown from 25 to 20.

Persnickety

  • Life leech increased from 15 to 20%.
  • Bonus damage increased from 5 to 15%.

Phyrexian Mercenary

  • Bonus damage on primary increased from 6 to 8.
  • Ammo on both primary and secondary increased from 55/45 to 70.

Pistoleer

  • Ultimate cooldown increased from 2 to 3 seconds.

Plaguebearer

  • Increased poison chance from 40 to 70%.
  • Increased poison nova damage from 60 to 80.
  • Increased movement speed from 40 to 50%.

Priest

  • Ultimate cooldown lowered from 40 to 30 seconds.

Professor X

  • Increased respawn chance from 60 to 75%.

Pyromaniac

  • Damage reduction increased from 25 to 45%.
  • Magic damage reduction increased from 15 to 35%.
  • Burn chance increased from 33 to 50%.

Ranger of the Woods

  • Damage absorption decreased from 45 to 35%.
  • Poison damage decreased from 25 to 15.
  • Ultimate cooldown increased from 20 to 30 seconds.

Recon Scout

  • Bonus damage persists for 1 second after moving.

RPG Race

  • Long Jump power decreased slightly.
  • Slow reduced from 30 to 20%.
  • Slow duration reduced from 1.5 to 1 second.

Savage

  • Decreased movement speed in ultimate from 75% to 60%.

Sensei Golden-Tail

  • Ultimate cooldown reduced from 1 to 0.9 seconds. Kappa

Soul Reaper

  • Judgment AoE increased from 200 to 300 units.
  • Withering Presence AoE increased from 550 to 600 units.
  • Inhuman Nature AoE increased from 400 to 600 units.
  • Inhuman Nature heal amount increased from 20 to 40 at max.

Soul Stealer

  • Greatly increased soul acquisition, making Soul Stealer's strong point attainable.

Spymaster

  • Cash on round start improved from $200 minimum to $500 minimum.

Stalker

  • Increased critical strike chance from 25 to 50%.
  • Increased critical strike minimum bonus damage from 1 to 9.

Succubus Hunter

  • Chance to gain skulls on hit increased from 40 to 50% at max.
  • Ultimate now costs 2 skulls at all ranks, from 1-4 skulls.

Swag-7

  • Increased bonus HP from 25 to 28.
  • Increased movement speed from 14 to 28%.

SWAT Officer

  • Bonus damage increased from 15 to 25%.

T-Z

Tatsu, Ice Dragon

  • Blind chance decreased from 65 to 35%.

Tiny

  • Toss range increased from 300 to 350 units.
  • Bonus HP increased from 150 to 200.

Thor, God of Thunder

  • Deals 50% of normal taser damage, up from 40%.

Transient Entity

  • Invisibility increased from 75% to 85%.

T-Rekts

  • Increased stomp damage from 4 to 12.

Trickster Assassin

  • Damage reduction increased from 10 to 20%.
  • Damage absorption increased from 10 to 20%.

Trinity

  • Ability cooldown reduced from 20 to 9 seconds.
  • Ultimate cooldown reduced from 15 to 9 seconds.
  • Ultimate duration increased from 5 to 8 seconds.

Troll of Tel-Jilad

  • Long jump power increased slightly.
  • You carry a slightly huger hammer.

Undead Lord

  • Increased respawn chance from 50 to 65%.

Undead Scourge

  • Increased HP capacity from 150 to 160.

Unholy Paladin

  • Maximum HP decreased from 165 to 145.
  • Maximum life leech decreased from 22.75% to 19.5%.
  • Restricted from buying Periapt of Health, Claws of Attack.

Voodoo Witch Doctor

  • Increased critical strike chance from 15 to 20%.
  • Increased slow chance from 15 to 25%.
  • Increased slow on ultimate from 20 to 30%.

Warden

  • Can now opt out of mole by using +ability. Must be done before the round begins and mole is determined.

Wizard of the Everlasting

  • Reduced maximum armor from 125 to 100.
  • Reduced regeneration from 5.0 to 4.5.

Apparently somewhere in my edit, these two got removed, so:

 

Cursed Pharaoh and Sin are looking at ability reworks in the near future, so they were left out here. Stay tuned for more details.

For a huge job that required a lot of judgment, I agree largely with the changes. Thanks Name for putting so much effort in.

I got a couple suggestions (who would a guessed) but nothing major... Will post or msg you later.

Ogre one shots zombies now but Gargoyle Goomba doesn't, brb rioting

Tested on dev server, Golden Tail survives gravitas but Gargoyle does not. More rioting?

(Honestly if possible golden tail should die to gravitas force spike, I wonder if human teleport etc. survives since they get the fall damage immunity and I believe that is what is causing it? I don't know.)

 

Also my #1 complaint about the changes (and it is INCREDIBLY minor) is that Slipspace on gravitas is still gravity reduction for teammates. It should honestly be both gravity and speed or just speed... it is currently really useless (imo), but regardless of whether it is changed or not this doesn't make the race much better or worse.

Did some analysis on Master of War damage buff (cuz, y'know, I like the race) to see how big of an effect it is.

 

The TLDR is this: New Steve essentially has free claws and can 1 tap Human Ally/Gen.

The difference without claws between +20% damage and +30% is pretty big at lower HP ranges.

 

The most notable things are this:

-New steve can 1 tap a 140 hp enemy

-New steve can 1 tap a 150 hp enemy WITH claws

In general it looks like ~30% of kills will probably take one less bullet. Ult bug fix is the next step :P

 

Good stuff. Again, glad to see all the changes.

Even though I don't agree with some of the changes( like savage still needing a proper change to the way it moves and duelist needing an even bigger buff than just lowering the cooldown), I was pleasantly surprised just scrolling down the page and seeing some nice buffs and nerfs. Thanks for this patch Name and whoever else contributed to it.

Master of War and Angel of Light do not deal increased damage (I imagine both use War3_DamageModPercent native, I know Angel does). I'm guessing anything that uses War3_DamageModPercent probably isn't dealing bonus damage, therefore anything that increases damage by a % probably is broken right now.

I had multiple AK leg shots with people not on races with damage reduction deal exactly 26 damage, the same as a regular AK shot with no bonus damage.

I hit a human alliance (as angel of light) 5 times for a total of 155 damage when I had +25% damage. If all 5 shots were leg shots (worst case scenario) this would be 26*5*1.25=162.5 damage. It is physically impossible to deal 155 damage in 5 shots with 25% bonus damage and an AK47 (without penetration, but that wasn't the case).

 

It could be something else, but I would be surprised.

 

edit: apparently Master of War does not use the same damage function as angel, so maybe angel (And other races) aren't broken and because I tested angel a lot less than others. Will try to figure out whats going on...

Hey guys, I had to restart the server to finalize the changes, but, due to a combination of a 12 hour marathon slam jam coding session and poor life decisions involving caffeine, I fell asleep. Thorgot restarted the server at some point and changes should be live. Sorry.
