1.Look for high pressure lines. They have pressed fittings on each end. They should run from the a/c compressor to inside the cab. If you cant solve the issue, take it to a mechanic to check for leaks. If that isn't it then it's the compressor. You can ask a mechanic for a diagonostic without having to have them fix it. It could be various other things too like the switch and such. The mechanic will do a UV freon check like shadow mentioned above.
2. Buy an aftermarket head unit at bestbuy with an adapter for your car. If you have a little more in your budget, you can get a mounting kit too. You'll spend ~$60 on the head unit, 20 on the adapter, and 3-5 dollars on the crimp connectors. When installing you plug the adapter into the car, and wire the matching colors together with the crimp connector. If your car is older than I think, you may have to wire in the head unit in manually. My car had what I describe earlier. Also, getting an aftermarket head unit opens up the option to getting some subs for a little extra enjoyment in your music.
