Democratic and Republican Nominations

Recommended Posts

Ted Cruz will edge out Trump for the nomination I believe. Polls tend to favor the more controversial candidate up until people actually head to the voting booths and more moderate candidates win out. Not that Cruz is a moderate but he isn't as controversial as Trump and Bush's support is just too low and he has come across as a bit of a wimp so far.

Although I'm voting for Sanders, Clinton will almost certainly get the Democratic nomination simply because of how much support she has from the more moderate Democrats and the establishment.

I'm not really liking the prospects of this election on either side. Rhetoric and sensationalism have dominated the headlines and marginalized the issues.

Cruz is actually just as, if not more controversial than Trump. He's basically a Trump who also wants a Christian theocracy.

I would expect Rubio to power through with the help of big donors, but it's hard to say.

Hillary vs Bernie is so far in Hillary's favour, but Bernie is gaining quickly and I feel his supporters are much more likely to show up in the primaries, so I'm still hoping he'll pull through.

Yeah I kind of agree with you on Cruz. I guess I should have said he hasn't been as edgy and combative as Trump, at least where media exposure is concerned..

And Bernie is gaining a lot of popularity amongst young liberals particularly through the internet, but that isn't a demographic which has historically showed up to the polls. I mean, you can look at past candidates who had the same kind of support Bernie has i.e Eugene McCarthy and they struggled to get the necessary support from their own parties, and I fear Bernie will face the same fate.

Cruz and more prominently, Trump will probably still hold the advantage in the polls up until the nomination. Trump may have ton of media exposure, but there's no way he's going to hold onto this momentum when it actually comes time for the Republican voters to choose their nominee.

Like Kim, I'm expecting Rubio to take it considering that he comes across as moderate in comparison to the rest of the Republican candidates and his heavy donor support also helps. Policy wise however though, there isn't really THAT much of a big difference between them if you take out Trump's nationalist drumming and Cruz's wet dream for a theocracy but I'm getting off topic here. I didn't address the rest of the Republican candidates because they don't stand a chance at this point, Jeb included. Sorry Rand.

That being said though, I won't be terribly surprised if Trump takes the nomination but he would get absolutely destroyed by either Hillary or Sanders in the general debates. His bravado and complete lack of specifics just isn't going to work in a one on one debate against a highly articulate opponent. Rubio on the other hand, would be able to debate on mostly equal terms with the Democratic candidate and not completely turn off people who are undecided on who they want to support.

As for the Democratic nomination, Hillary's victory is pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point and I'm saying this as a Bernie supporter. I'm still going to vote for him in the primary, but he's going up against such a heavy favorite with the Clinton brand. I'm expecting a 60-40 victory for Clinton here which is still somewhat close.

It will be between Cruz and Trump but I believe Cruz will beat Trump due to the fact that people believe hat Trump will do stupid things and make the country a bad place to be but I believe Hiliary will beat everyone because she keeps a leveled head and she believes that everyone should be heard and believes in equal rights for everyone not just citizens of the U.S.A. I really hope that Hiliary wins but if Cruz does then I'll be fine witht that

Hopefully people will come to agree that Rubio is the most logical one out of the top 3 GOP candidates, and will have him become the primary winner.  Clinton has 53 vs 31 in the polls, so that gap has been closed by Sanders in the past 4-5 months, when that gap was more like 66 vs 12 back in the summer.  Maybe Sanders could pull through, I don't really know.  He will (probably) get the New England Vote, but everything else is fair game for the Democrats.  I think Rubio is the only one of the GOP candidate top 3 that won't get de_stroyed in the debates is he gets the primary :/

Trump is like global warming, at first everyone went along with it because they thought it was a joke. Slowly as he progresses as the leading candidate people realize no one has told him the joke was over. Hopefully with any sense he won't win the electoral vote, but sadly there may be enough pull to take the lead in the popular vote.

I'd really like Bernie to be the Dem nominee but Hillary has too much support from private companies and banks as well as feminist lobbies. I'll end up reluctantly voting Republican just to try keep Hillary out of office.

Despite the "Clinton" spectre and her deep ties to big money in Washington, I still think she'd be better than any of the likely GOP candidates. If I have to choose between someone who represents more of the same like Hillary and a rich blowhard like Trump or a theocrat like Cruz...I choose more of the same.

I really hope Hillary wins the DNC nomination because it would guarantee a Republican win in November.

Agreed. Those are the 2 that I would vote for. It's a shame rand is falling behind, I really liked him. I can't stand Cruz.

Same boat as you. I would vote for Rand but I don't think he can win the nomination so I'm going to end up voting for Rubio. Only thing that bothers me though is that Rubio, if I remember correctly, only shows up to about half of the Senate meetings. I don't feel comfortable voting for someone who can't even completely commit to his current position.

Bernie actually trying to help Americans get what in the developed world is considered basic human rights. America has fallen so far behind the rest of the developed world in terms of standards of living and happiness levels. America needs some democratic socialism not more obsession with full on capitalism that does nothing but fuck over the poor.

The recruits this election are quite shit. 0/10 voting no on all Kappa

-1/50

Fuck Trump, Clinton, Rubio, and Cruz.

If I had to pick, I'd vote either O'Malley or Sanders. Both are leagues less toxic than any other of the shit Republicans this election and I don't trust Clinton at all.
