"Must have PC Programs"

Recommended Posts

yeah most of those are pretty good. the tune up programs like defraggler/recuva you may not need ... handbrake you may not need either. if you have different passwords for all your accounts, a program like lastpass is cool.

I would say CCleaner is a must, along with VLC. the others you could probably find something comparable because of user preference. Myself, I use Winrar and 7Z. Some might want Firefox as opposed to Chrome.

Notepad++ is great if you need to have a lot of text files open.

7-Zip speaks for itself, great program.

Who doesn't have adobe reader?

VLC is great, I prefer windows media player classic.

Chrome? Sure why not.

Don't know about the rest.

I prefer to use 7-Zip over WinRAR any time.

7-Zip all day everyday , highly recommend it

I personally use win-rar, but I also have 7-zip installed for when I want to bundle and compress something that's going over to a Linux box, much easier to untar / bzip something in Linux, and 7-zip can pack them, as well as unpack.

Both are great programs though.

Notepad++ all day,  it has changed my life.

VLC, like notepad++, all day man.  Audio, Video, everything.

Lastpass or keepass are both good password managers, I recommend either, personally I use keepass though.

Ccleaner is great if you don't feel like manually going in to your user account folder and deleting temp files, etc.

VLC is also great, and there is a standalone version that you don't have to install floating around too.

Chrome is getting bloated.

Recuva i've used a couple times to recover some porn off of failing drives. Works well.

Defraggler isn't really necessary as win7/8 auto defrags when your pc is at idle for a set amount of time.

If you have chrome, adobe reader isn't really necessary for opening PDF's. Just open them with chrome.

7zip is fine, but I prefer winrar.

The rest i've never heard of.

CCleaner - meh. it's a good program but I don't use it.

notepad++ - hell yes! but if you don't code or go between linux and windows then you might not need it

7-Zip - screw that. PeaZip is where its at.

Adobe Reader - fuck adobe. FoxIt reader instead

defraggler - not needed

Recuva - Last time I needed to do this I used TestDisk... hardcore man! No gui!

VLC - yes

Handbrake - Do you do video editing? If so then you need this. Otherwise just use one of the dozen online converters

Chrome - I like Firefox better. I think the awesome bar is better. However, I am currently switching to Chrome

LastPass - It's nice. Especially the autofill. However, I need to store passwords and other info that isn't always "online". I use KeePass. I put my KeePass file on dropbox so it syncs to all my devices.

Never knew about CCleaner...found 20 GB of temp data.

I'm a bigger fan of Glary Utilities.. Same concept, more functionality.

in any windows machine, i use Notepad++ (vim when im in linux). in both linux and windows i use 7zip, vlc, chrome, handbrake for videos, and finally keepass (its much better than lastpass)

you only need ccleaner if you're a dumbass who doesn't know how to maintain their own system, so most of sg probably uses it!

Handbreak was a life saver. I would convert and load a bunch of movies onto my phone. It gave me something to watch on those long helicopter rides.

Let me guess... You have an iPhone

i put vids on my cell and tablet with handbrake i dont purchase apple or allow it in my house :/

it's also great for getting that perfect size/quality ratio when backing up your collections to your plex server.

meh, I guess I am just lazy. I just got a player on my phone that can handle most formats and throw the full file on there. I am not really concerned with quantity since I just put TV shows on my phone so a couple episodes each of several shows is enough for me and that still doesn't fill my 32GB card.

NP++

7z

Rest are trash. MPC-HC is the best media player, Firefox is currently the best browser, and NitroPDF or Foxit are way better than Adobe's trash. Peazip might be okay now. Been a while since I used it.
