Spell 331 Posted May 5, 2013 (edited) Rather than give you individual book names, I suggest looking up some authors. My personal favorites are Robin Hobb, Steven Erikson, Margaret Weis, D'Lacey, Tracy HIckman, Terry Goodkind. Now, some of these authors wrote together on books, I'll name some series by them:Margaret Weis & Tracy HickmanDragon Lance ChroniclesThe War of Souls TrilogyDragon Lance LegendsWeiss & PerrinThe Raistlin ChroniclesWeissThe Dragonwald TrilogyR.A.SalvatorePaths of DarknessRobin HobbThese 3 are all relatedThe Farseer TrilogyThe Liveship tradersThe Tawny ManThis is an unrelated seriesSoldier Son TrilogySteven EriksonThe Malazan Book of the FallenMcCaffreyThe Dragonriders of PernTerry GoodkindA sword of TruthThese are just the series names, If you have questions regarding what order to read them in or are interested in what order I recommend reading them (series wise), feel free to ask. Do take note, nearly all of these books are close to 1000 pages, so these are not short books at all. If you would like individual names of the books, either Google them(can be a bit confusing, since some of them have A LOT of books) or just ask.Good examples of long series in here btw, since Dragon Lance series as a whole has close to 15 or so books, A sword of Truth has I believe 12-15 as well. He's also written good fantasy-esque books, my favorites being The Lost Gate and Pathfinder.Good author, check him out. 3 1 Archy, KGameLover1, Dylan and 1 other reacted to this

Name 2616 Posted May 6, 2013 Anything by Dean Koontz, though the Odd Thomas series is some of his best work, along with Life Expectancy. I really liked the Cirque Du Freak series back when I was a few years younger. Darren Shan's other series are good as well. Outside of that, the only books I've read are military, Shooter and No Easy Day are both good books.

I'm a sucker for city-state stories like that.I only had to see Oscar Wao's first chapter title ("Ghetto Nerd at the End of the World") for it to pique my interest.Regarding After Dark, my older sister bought me 1Q84 for Christmas one year (we always buy each other books) and I still haven't read it. Should I read that first? Also, wtf, I didn't know Strangers on a Train was a book first, definitely reading that one right fucking now.i red dese buksRobin Hobb's Farseer trilogy was really good. If After Dark and 1Q84 are connected and 1Q84 came out before After Dark then you may as well read 1Q84 before After Dark. The Long Price Quartet gets really good by the final book, but it can be pretty dry at times. But I'm really glad I finished it.I met Patrick Rothfuss in SF. He's a cool guy. His books are probably my favorites.

I need to go and pick up all of them again to re-read through them. Malazaan is by far one of the most intricate in terms of story and environment that I have read thus far, simply due to the fact that there's like 5-6 stories going on at once which is the insane part.If you like Robin Hobb's Farseer, pick up Soldier Son Trilogy. Definitely good read and since it's in a different universe than Farseer, it's a nice break.Terry Goodkind's A sword of Truth series is also insanely well put together, but is also extremely lengthy. The Sword of Truth series is 12 books long, with them being on average 800-900 pages long.Edit: More misc infoDragon Lance series are probably the shortest of the ones given here, but are very intricate and close to my heart. Weis's development of characters is extremely intimate, and sprawls out a very large world. In short, all of these long fantasy series develop a myriad of stories (upwards of 6 or so at a time) throughout their course in any given book. None of these are bad reads to say the least, I do however recommend that you read these in paper form, since they are so much cheaper to get at an old bookstore than on a kindle. Fact that I got all of my trilogies for Dragon Lance except the original 3 from one bookstore for a combined total of ~40 Dollars (If i were to buy these on kindle store @6$ a pop, for 15 book is 90$). It's either buy it on Amazon and have them ship it to me, or buy it on Kindle and get it instantly.
