Gerald reacted to MOFLSTOMP in CALLING OUT KIWI
Kawaii Kiwi Fagboy. Gotta either have a grudge or be madly in love with me to go through that many posts to negrep. sG, do we really want somebody who gets this butthurt over nothing to be SO? Should we really listen to somebody who never wears his tags in-game? Why are we letting somebody get butthurt and extend a ban to unnecessary lengths?

Kawaii, I know you secretly want to get my attention because you want the D, but I don't swing that way. Even if I did, I could do WAY better than you.

Gerald reacted to MOFLSTOMP in Indie Gala Giveaway!
Okay, I do this every time an Indie Gala bundle comes around, and since I jumped for the 5-key bundle, I figured I'd set up a little trivia game to give them away. Below are a set of 5 various questions: easy, difficult, or something quite obscure, related to technology and/or gaming.
    1) The main form of travel in Tribes: Ascend. Answered By: Joseph (Surprised that this one got answered so fast, haha)
    2) Nomenclature for the GeForce GTX Architecture. Answered By: Dojima (Tesla, Fermi, Kepler, and future GeForce archi are named after scientists!)
    3) The significance of the number 53,594. Answered By: XIII (Population of Willamette, Colorado, and zombie kills needed for achievement in Dead Rising)
    4) Give the nickname for the problem with Intel CPUs that prevented them from booting at a ridiculously low temperature during extreme overclocking.
Answered By: Dyscivist (When the first Phenom series came out, they managed to overcome the Cold bug/Cold Boot bug that still plagued Intel at the time. This problem doesn't occur until you go well below freezing point [The PC will just flat-out not boot, w/o any POST errors], which is out of reach for normal PC users, but serious for overclockers. The Phenom II series was able to reach temperatures closing in on absolute zero and still manage to boot successfully, which allowed the use of liquid Helium to push overclocks to the absolute maximum on AMD processors)
    5) Sticking to the subject of overclocking, what do professional overclockers use for coolant once liquid N has no effect on temperature?
Answered By: Eek (In very rare cases, Liquid Helium will be used to achieve temperatures close to absolute zero, such as the AMD-sponsored world record overclock attempt just before Bulldozer was officially released, smashing the previous record (at the time) with an overclock of over 8.4GHz [info is correct to my knowledge])
One ANSWER per person. Not gonna have every single gift go out to one person.
EDIT: I'll probably have another batch of keys to give away early next week, so I'll be posting a second topic with 10 questions. If you've already won, and have some ideas for questions, shoot 'em on over after I send the keys.

I'd personally stay away from the Sabertooth motherboard. Pick up a decent Gigabyte, ASRock, or even a P8Z77-PRO board instead.
Also, don't bother getting the Xonar DG sound card if you're getting a brand-new motherboard. Generally speaking, onboard sound is much better than add-on cards until you get to the $100+ range. Plus, you have to take into consideration whether the card has an amplifier if you've got higher-end speakers/headphones/headset with a higher impedance than the standard 32ohms, a possible DAC, required rear audio ports, and interference from other system components.
TL;DR - Don't bother with sound unless it's either busted, or you've got $100+ to spend on a card that'll power a $200+ headset you already have

Started browsing the other videos done by the same guy as SpecialBrownies' crazy rock arch rope swing video, and came across this. Not as epic as the swing, but I'd gladly be doing this shit day in and day out.

Gerald reacted to MOFLSTOMP in Building a new computer. (question about motherboard)
PCI Express video cards are just finally able to start taking advantage of the full PCI-E x16 2.0 bandwidth. With 3.0, they doubled the available bandwidth per lane effectively, so each 3.0 slot at x8 is running full 2.0 x16 speeds.
Also, contrary to Blindboi, the difference has never really mattered because the generation gap was always implemented before it was needed. Most current-gen cards don't even have the thoroughput to use the full 16 lanes.
When PCI-E x16 2.0 came out, no card could make use of it, and using an older 2.0 card (When it first released) in a 1.1 slot yielded little performance difference in comparable tests. This in mind, to answer the overall question, the x8 speeds won't matter until far later in the lifespan of PCI-E x16 Gen 3, when the later GeForce and AMD architectures start to be unveiled. By that time, Gen 4 will be released as a precautionary measure as can easily be predicted

Gerald reacted to MOFLSTOMP in Unreal Engine 4
So, the buzz has been going around that UE4 is going to be a complete gamechanger after displaying the Elemental demo around the time of E3 this year.

    [media=]
Last time I checked, the engine never mattered, because it always boils down to the inability of consoles to take advantage of their full capabilities. But with the rumors and confirmations about the next gen systems, this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Anybody else think the next generation of the console race will mean more of these GPU features (like particle simulation and rigid body physics) being implemented in games?

Most badass movie I've seen in months. There isn't much for story, but the plot is tossed out in front of you during the first 5-10 minutes of the movie, and the rest is a disgustingly gory, yet pleasing joyride of action, martial arts, and killing. Oh, and LOTS of machetes.
You can remove the following link if it's not allowed, but one of my RL buddies sent me this to watch it online. The player doesn't do the movie justice with the framerate of it, though: http://www.free-tv-video-online.me/player/novamov.php?id=4e3xlmpras2cn
Yes, it's a legitimate link. I just got done watching the movie

It's amazing. I have the same exact drive, and I bought the desktop upgrade kit from newegg for, you guessed it, $109.99. Performance is as would be expected from an SSD of this price range for the capacity, and comes with a free copy of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to boot!

Just pick up some cheap AC filter and line the open grates on the case with it. That's what I did to my HAF and it's been virtually dust/hair free ever since.

Nothing I'd think would've happened normally, but Devin Graham from the insane rope swing and slip 'n' slide videos Eek and I posted a while back got this collaboration to happen. Can't Stop Won't Stop was the background music for both of the videos, and he's got a third video to this song.
Can't wait to see her live in September!

Illogical, just buy a $0.97 package of AC filter foam. Cut it to fit the open grills, and secure between the grills and fan. Not the greatest fix, but it beats paying out the ass for custom filters

Gerald reacted to MOFLSTOMP in New Dexter SST 8s
So, for all of you that might even minutely care, I'm a bowler. Have been for over a decade, and while I'm certainly nowhere near the pros, I definitely don't suck. Anyway, I ordered these a couple days ago

The newest iteration of the Dexter SST 8's. No drastic changes over the last models, but there's an added toe drag protector on both shoes to prevent the slide pad from separating from the shoe, a problem which plagued the original line. The included soles are definitely helpful, but I've just started getting accustomed to the pre-placed S8 slide foot.
Overall, besides nearly eating shit a few times because of the added weight and drastically different feel from my previous shoe, I'm definitely pleased with the purchase. So far, I've only put 4 games on them, but the transition was very smooth and already feels no different from my original approach/slide. It also helps that I'm the only one at the local bowling alley that has the new model.
