MY MASSIVE BHOP TUTORIAL - WRITTEN BY PORK N CHILI
I made this tutorial as a way for anyone who is interested in learning to bunny hop or just wants to improve. Throughout this tutorial, I will talk about the various techniques utilized in bunny hopping and provide detailed analysis of each example as just about every tutorial that I have seen fails to provide extra analysis on each topic.

Before I begin this tutorial though, I would just like to thank a few people:

    - Blublub: Thank you for providing a few video examples and for looking this tutorial over.

    - [HG] Aimer: Thanks for letting me use a few of your video examples and for giving me the idea of making a tutorial for sG.

    - sG | Drunkula: Thanks for helping revive this server and for letting me help out with the server.

    Section 1: Background and Pre-Settings
Bunny Hop, also known as bhop, is a form of movement in CS:S that involves a player moving at an increasing velocity through multiple jumps. The basic principle of bhop centers on the synchronized use of your keyboard, mouse, and your mouse wheel.

    1. To start off with, you must enter these commands into your console in order to bhop:

    - bind mwheelup +jump
    - bind mwheeldown +jump

By doing this, you make it easier for yourself to time your jumps as it is impossible to become a proficient bhopper with your spacebar.

    2. Under options/video/advanced, make sure that enable vertical-sync is DISABLED. By doing this, you increase the accuracy that your jumps can be timed as there is a positive correlation between the amount of speed you can attain and the amount of frames per second that you get in game.

    3. Under options/mouse, make sure that you have mouse filter enabled as this tends to help when strafing. Furthermore, make sure that your mouse sensitivity is at a good level for you.

Section 2: The Basics of Bunny Hopping
When you're first learning to bhop, there are two basic principles that you'll need to become familiar with: Jump timing and strafing.

Just remember, while bunny hopping and in midair, NEVER HOLD W.

    1. Jump Timing: When learning how to bunny hop, you should first get familiar with a server's settings as not all bhop servers are alike. To get used to the server's jump timing, I recommend just using your mouse wheel jumping up and down for about a minute straight. While you're doing this, begin to concentrate on the rhythm on your mouse wheel and notice any details that allow you to jump perfectly (ie: starting the scroll slightly before or after you land and the amount of time to scroll per jump).

When jumping up to a higher platform, you should hold crouch after you jump and only let go once you've returned to a constant level. It is extremely important to learn how to time both crouched and regular jumps while bhopping as not all surfaces are completely level.

    2. Strafing: When you begin to bhop, there are three basic movements that a player can use and should become familiar with; weaving, flicking, and wiggling.

    - Weaving involves coordinating your mouse direction and keyboard movements in semi-circle patterns for each jump. This results in a weave, or squiggly line pattern.

In the video, Aimer begins by jumping to the first block and then holds down d and looks to the right in order to arc to the 2nd one. From there, he does the opposite and repeats back and forth until he completes the section.

When you are just beginning, it is sometimes helpful to start your run on the opposite side of the first block in order to get used to this back and forth pattern.

    - Flicking (also known as circle jumping) involves you moving in a fast double ark from one block to another in a way that looks like a fast flick.

In this example, Aimer begins by hopping normally to the first block and strafes normally to the second one. From there, he alternates quickly from a, to d, and back to a and looks the same way with his mouse. He then does the opposite of this when he hops to the next block and repeats until he completes the level.

    - Wiggling is a technique that is used to gain extra distance per jump through short, but coordinated, motions back and forth. If you've ever tried long jumping, this is a common technique.

In this example, Aimer begins the same exact way as the previous two. However, when he jumps off the 1st block, he begins to move his mouse quickly and precisely to skip the blocks on the right.

When doing this, it is extremely important to have your movements left and right completely synchronized between your mouse and keyboard. If not, then this technique loses its effectiveness and becomes nearly useless.

Depending on the map, multi-hop may be enabled. This means that you are allowed to hop on the same block infinitely as long as you do not stop jumping. This is a useful thing to know if you need more speed to get from a multi-hop block to another. You’ll learn how to gain that extra speed on the block in the next section.

    Section 3: Pre-Speeding
On many maps, it is necessary to gain extra speed at the beginning of a section in order to reach a far away block. This is done through Pre-Speeding and there are two basic ways of doing so: figure 8's and +left/+right.

    1. Figure 8’s: The basic idea of this kind of pre-speeding is to hop around a single area back and forth in a figure 8. By doing this, you are constantly strafing and, as a result, gaining more speed.

As you can see, this method should be completely smooth. Each time that you reach the middle of the area that the figure 8 is around, you should switch directions. Keep in mind, the figure 8 can be stretched and shortened as necessary; this is extremely useful to know when you try to pre-speed in cramped spaces.

    2. +left and +right: This method involves binding either +left or +right to a key of your choice; though it is preferable to choose one that is easy to reach such as v. When you hold down the bound key, you’ll begin to start rotating around an axis. By holding down the corresponding directional key and jumping, you are able to gain speed gradually. When using this method, there is no need to strafe as the +left/+right bind is doing the strafing for you.

In this example, I am using +left and holding down a at the same time. While I am doing this, I am concentrating on my jump timing and constantly gaining speed as a result.

Additionally, if you want to adjust the size of the circle that is made when you +left/+right, all you have to do is adjust the yaw speed in your console. This is done by typing cl_yawspeed x, where x is any number from 0 to infinity. For example, if you are in a cramped space, you can increase the yaw speed in order to shorten the size of the circle. If you want to have more space, then you would decrease the yaw speed. Personally, I use cl_yawspeed’s of 210 (the default number), 350, and 450.

    Section 4: Advanced Techniques
Despite the fact that just about every gap in a bhop map can be jumped over, there are some times where you need to long jump. Long jumping is a form of jumping that involves a player gaining speed through running alongside a gap and then strafing after they jump in order to reach a far platform.

As you can see, blublub begins by holding w and d while curving towards the edge of the block. As he reaches the very end of the block, he jumps and begins to strafe towards the other platform. In the air, he alternates between a and d and moves his mouse accordingly in a smooth and synchronized way.

Although most people only learn to bunny hop the standard way, there are two other methods of bunny hopping: W-Only and Sideways. Although there really isn’t any practical use for these in any bunny hop map, it is still something that can be cool to know. I won’t go into detail on what is going on in the videos as they’re pretty much self explanatory.

    1. Sideways: This involves using w and s instead of a and d. when doing this, it’s just a matter of getting used to the way you are moving and how you should synchronize it. People say it is similar to learning how to bunny hop all over again, but it really just depends on the player.

    2. W-Only: The name pretty much explains it all. Although the only key that needs to be pressed is w, this method is very hard to get good at since this usually requires you to move in large arcs.

Section 5: Server Related Information and extra commands
As I have stated previously, not all bunny hop servers are the same. The two most common differences lie in the tick rate and the air acceleration.

    1. Tick Rate: This deals with the commands (in this case, jumps) registered by the server in a second. The higher the tick rate, the more accurate your jumps get registered, and the faster you can go.

    - 33 tick: On this, it is nearly impossible to hold speeds of over 500 even if you were to script. This is definitely not ideal for bunny hopping.

    - 66 tick: This is what most servers use and it allows for a decent amount of bunny hopping.

    - 100 tick: Most bunny hop servers use this tick and it is considered the standard for bunny hopping. Everything works fine with 100 tick and it is the most stable.

    - 200 tick: Only a few servers use this tick, and one of which is sG. This tick allows for the most speed, most strafing, and is easy to pick up. The only downside to this tick is that it messes with surf ramps and can cause you to stick to them a lot.

    2. Air Acceleration: This deals with the amount of friction in mid air when you attempt to strafe.

    - 100 AA: This is the standard air acceleration on most CS:S servers. It allows for a decent amount of strafing, but is unforgiving if your mouse movements aren’t very smooth.

    - 150 AA: This is what many 100 tick servers use as it allows for wider strafes and is more forgiving to those that aren’t as smooth with their mice.

    - 1000 AA: This is the optimal air accelerate for 200 tick servers as it gives you the perfect amount of leeway to strafe with the increased speed of 200 tick.

When you consider bunny hopping on some of these servers, there is a way that you can adjust your video settings in order to get better jump accuracy and in turn, gain more speed. This is called FPS maxing, and you input it through your console.

    1. fps_max 34: This can be put into your console if you are joining a 33 tick or 66 tick server. Although it is hard to gain speed in those servers, it still can increase your bunny hop speed and the accuracy of your jumps substantially.

    2. fps_max 54: This can be put into your console if you’re joining a 100 tick server. As is the norm, you are able to gain more speed through this.

    3. fps_max 101: This is the fps max for 200 tick and for people that can’t get a consistent 300 FPS on 200 tick servers.

    4. fps_max 300: This is the standard fps max and is also the optimal one for 200 tick servers. It is best to learn how to bhop on the standard fps first before trying out fps maxing so you are accustomed to what your normal settings would be.

Section 6: Final Things to Remember
    1. The Most Common Phrase: As with any new skill, practice makes perfect. It will take time to learn how to bunny hop and to get comfortable with the movements necessary.

    2. !scout is dumb: Using a scout doesn't help you when you’re bunny hopping. However, it does help when long jumping.

    3. Don’t hop so straight. Don’t be afraid to strafe more and hop outside of the blocks more. The more you break these habits, the better you’ll become.

    4. Scripts are boring: Although it may seem fun to use them, don’t use scripts until you’re a fully developed bunny hopper. Even then, don’t use them religiously either. It is always best to learn how to bunny hop on your own in order to develop your skills with maintaining speed.

    5. KAC Banned: Don’t be a retard and use any hacks that bypass sv_cheats in a bunny hop server. It’s a bunny hop server, you don’t need wall hacks. If you get banned by KAC because of this, then you’ll just become a complete laughing stock.

    6. Don’t be a Mungo: Don’t be like some bhop players and become a super try hard. This isn't supposed to be a super competitive dick showing contest so just try and have fun and improve. Those that forget this end up paying for scripts, become annoying, and become fat and play in marching band.

You'd be surprised at the amount of people who can play bhop properly. There's very many pros in the bhop world and there's even more people  who are above average. Then there's a huge skill gap and then there's the noobs who think auto and EZhop make them a better player overall. Not to mention strafehacks as well. Not grouping you up with these players or anything just in case you think I am, it's just what I have seen on sG bhop myself and other servers. Now there's not that many people who think that way since becoming better is a lot easier now with the large amount of pros and tricks that can be told now (e.g work on LJ and improve overall strafe sync, or work on strafetapping to learn to control speed on longer maps that require speed control). And many people are fine with scripts. I only see a person or two every so often who would complain about scripts and they later changed their mind on them.

sG bhop is the only 200tick server without auto or EZhop in the US. (FAP 200tick is gone now, so perhaps in the world. I haven't been around much lately though) Not everyone wants a server to have either auto or EZhop. Auto is somewhat delayed(Which I know you weren't talking about this, just adding in what other bhop servers have now), and EZhop adds a lot of bullshit skips on maps which ruins the majority of them. And there's servers that are still legit old settings, 100tick and no EZhop or auto. That makes sG bhop stand out as being different, and the majority of the people who already play there don't want EZhop to be on the server, nor auto. Hell, we laugh at everyone who plays on those servers.

But the point is, if we added auto, or even just EZhop, we would just turn into another CW or the however  many other servers that have CW's timer now even with the same auto/EZ setup. But, this is just how I see it, being a player of the bhop server  for a few years now.

And one of the biggest things killing population isn't what the server has or doesn't have, it's all of the hacks that are out there now. Bhop is slowly being killed because of the large amount of hacks and what they can do. While scripts are allowed on the server, strafehacks are allowed pretty much as well. There's hacks out there that are allowing people to record their run on a map up to the point they mess up and they can just use their hack to play up to the point they messed up and they'll continue their run perfectly after that. And in this same hack that does that, there's something that allows them to wiggle at an insane speed and get times on shorter maps that are completely inhumanely possible. This has caused previous regulars to stop playing quite a lot, and I'm sure scares off newer players when they get on the server and watch a replay that is completely done with cheats.

As for increasing the population though, there has already been a step set to that. The server just got a new timer however  many months ago, and I've been asking around for what kind of ranks people want to see on the server. Some of them were excited about the mentioning of ranks (Some foreign players) but still players nonetheless. This timer added the replay bot and other new appealing features to the server that are the same as on the servers you see with auto and EZ, just without auto and EZ.

Kind of a ramble of random things, not really thought through. There may be mistakes here or there, so my bad if there are.

Hi, here I have just been perma banned from the sG TTT server. Without my knowledge some people have been complaining about my Bhoping skills, now just to be clear I am a legitimate bhoper, I bhoped many times in CS:S and in gmod. This TTT server is exactly like a bhop server, it lets you gather amazing speed after a while of bhoping. Try playing some of the ZS servers, they don't allow that and therefore you can barely bhop. For my bhoping I use a mousewheel for bhops. It is really easy to bhop with my mouse which is a logitech I purchased two years ago, about the time I joined the server. I have a loose mousewheel so all I really have to do is keep scrolling and I can maintain speed.
I am a regular for this server, I have been for a long time. I have bhoped before, just not as much. My VAC bans have also been brought up. My account is currently restricted because my account was hacked last year or so on Christmas. I lost quite a bit of money because of this and found my games were banned as well. I have posted a screenshot on the post I was reported on to prove I am not kidding, I was restricted for a whole year. Anyway please review this quickly I have been playing here for a while and now that I got better at bhoping I get banned.
For those saying I do twitch, such as not having to move my mouse but keep jumping or turning around. There is such thing as backwards bhoping, also I once you gain a lot of speed you do not have to move your mouse for at least 3 jumps, you will keep going forward, but I immediately go back to moving left and right. Just a quick note. Anyway review my screenshot I will repost it here.

I reviewed jja.dem it looked like I just stop swimming, and I lost speed then started bhoping again and I got sudden boost from a prop, you were viewing that part in first person so no one can see it, seems like you want to make me look bad oreo.
