I believe anything a 'guest' can see, they can too. So things like members only, they won't have access.

I frequently see Google, occasionally Facebook, and once I think even MSN or Yahoo in the list of online users or users viewing a topic. These aren't actual profiles, but appear to be the servers themselves.
How does this work? Who exactly is viewing the forums through these identities, and how?
I'm not all that tech savvy about this sort of thing, and I'm really curious about how this could occur.
