It's 2018. This is a national dilemma and nobody is changing to help. It needs to start somewhere and I truly believe it can begin with teachers being less like robots and more like mentors.

Teachers get pushed with 28-30 Students per classroom by themselves, catching these things is extremely difficult.

 

Also pushing gun control is fucking common sense, when more kids have died sitting in a fucking school than service active members in 2018 we have an issue. It’s astonishing and tragic at the same time and in all honesty this comparison should have NEVER existed. 

 

The only thing we can really do that will impact school shootings and shootings in general are mandatory yearly 12 hour gun safety classes with a trained psychologist sitting in the classroom trying to see if some of these people are mentally unfit for owning a gun.

 

Not only gun control needs to be touched but school safety as well, a very reasonable and honestly smarter way to make kids safer is just simply follow a school in Indiana.

In my school, they rolled out student ID cards and everytime you make entrance anywhere they pretty much check it and if you dont have it you have to go to the damn office and wait till they "figure" out who you are. Kinda overkill IMO...

We have school police at our school and I promise and I would feel more safe with them than with America’s homeless veterans. I do think America’s veteran problem is a real issue but that would be a terrible way to go about getting them a job, especially when many of the homeless veterans have mental illness like PTSD.

However I don’t think this is a gun control problem at all, I think that this is a societal issue in America. Somewhere the kids of our (my) generation are failing to see the importance of life and especially respect to others. Suicide rates have also increased as well as school shootings. In the high school I attend, If someone wanted to cause harm to the school or students, they would do it regardless of gun control laws and regardless of school protection. We need to change something in our society. I would also say I go to one of the more aggressive schools in at least Nevada. We often have 2-3 fights break out every week. I just feel like people are raising their kids wrong.

Guns aren't the issue! It's the new generation of socially awkward males, who sit on their computer every day, that don't know how to talk to females and assume they should treat girls like see in their favorite pornos! Then when that technique doesn't work, they get sexually frustrated and take out their rage on the evil women perpetuating their lonely existence on earth.

Because America is the only country with mentally ill kids. This argument is so flawed it hurts. Yes we have mental health issues but thats not something exclusive to America. I agree, to a certain extent.

We definitely need to amp up our gun control as far as maybe better background checks and having people take classes when having to buy a gun. The problem with this most recent shooting (as I said before) is this kid was 17...

Nothing could have been done, of course besides having better school security, to stop this from happening.

1. He can’t buy or legally own a gun

2. He used a sawed-off shotgun (illegal)

1. Require a license to buy a gun like in Japan. With all the background checks etc .

2. Take some steps to reduce gun culture in America. Its evolving to the point its toxic and was literally according to historians artificially created to sell off excess guns. 

3. Stop using the excuse that the law wouldn't apply to that one individual so it shouldn't be passed or can't work. Overall the best way to reign in gun violence is to reduce the number of guns just floating around. If a law makes it so only responsible people get the legal guns the its less likely they'll filter out to others.

Anyone else feel like it might just be because we glorify school shooters? Never have I seen a school shooter be disrespected AFTER they shot up a school, instead "oh wow let's leave this kid alone, better not rile him up anymore". While we may not portray school shooters as heroes or anything, we give them acknowledgement when they shoot up a school, and imo that is all they are after. I believe if we bullied school shooters worse after the shooting than before the shooting, we would see a drastic decline in people who shoot others. If you're socially awkward, no one respects you, and are constantly berated by other people who seemingly hate you and get a kick out of seeing you cry, well, why not just flip the script? You'll no longer be disrespected, no one will make fun of you, and while they still may hate you, they'll be the ones crying. In a school shooter's mind, it doesn't seem like a bad deal, my idea to stop school shootings would be to openly mock school shooters. Maybe if newscasters said "wow can you believe Clarence? he only injured Mrs. Gordon couldn't even kill a 70 year old, that kid couldn't even get a school shooting right" then the next Clarence would see this, and realize, "hey if I shoot up my school, nothing's going to change, sure my bullies will due, but I'll be made fun of by even more people" thus avoiding the school shooting. I realize this is a very morose way of looking at things, but I think this may be a proper solution.
