Some of my relatives live near LA and SF, from their perspective, it seems that the price of a house the size of one in my part of Michigan is = to a house 1/2 the size... that could be the reason. Though I don't think that 100k counts as "low income"...

My family receives a low income and we live in LA just trying to get me to college and to move out would be impossible as the prices are hell. We live in a house that is divided into halves and my family gets half and my neighbor gets the other. Our landlord wants us to move out but to where? No one knows because everything is just so much expensive in LA than other places, especially the living cost.
