And so would they have been if Hillary did a no fly zone. Still means that your reasoning for Trump didn't pan out
centran 4457 Posted April 7, 2017 Hey, at least one good thing came of this. He must have actually listened to a security briefing for once. Either way you look at it and whatever he wanted to do he would have had a briefing which supposedly he tries to avoid them. Maybe if he didn't try to avoid them he wouldn't have had to bomb them because they would have stopped them from using the nerve gas in the first place! Kim 469 Posted April 9, 2017 We still have no evidence that it was Assad who did these chemical attacks, and there's nothing for him to gain by using chemical weapons against civilians right now. He was winning the war. The only thing chemical weapons do is make the West turn against him. It seems much more likely this was done by rebels who want to frame him. The same thing happened in the initial chemical attack back in 2013.

The same thing happened in the initial chemical attack back in 2013. I hope you realize how difficult it is to make military grade chemical weapons, and sarin even more so. The rebels in Syria are fragmented and aren't a unified opposition the regime like ISIS is. To expect them to make and store chemical weapons the way a functioning government being backed and funded by a world power is utterly asinine. Everything suggests Assad's government is responsible because what's left of Assad's opposition does not have the capacity for this sort of attack. The guy is a despot who rules through fear and as a history of bombing hospitals. He could care less about public approval as long as he has the unequivocal backing of a nuclear power like Russia. It shouldn't be an earth shattering surprise Assad cracked down even further on his own populace days after Rex Tillerson declare that the U.S. will no longer seek his removal. Even this airstrike turned to be fairly ineffective as the Syrians were somehow able to evacuate personnel and equipment from the base ahead of time.

If the rebels had access to this much chemical weapons why would they sit around while the rebels get slaughtered and civilians around them bombed by Russians instead of using the gas on the airfields

It's not unreasonable to believe the rebels could have acquired chemical weapons through when they took over government Iraqi and Syrian territory with government facilities. There's a possibility they got some from Turkey, and perhaps the most likely, there's a possibility there never was a chemical attack.
