Radar detectors

Anyone here have one? what are your experiences with them and if so which models did you use

 

I want a radar detector to keep an eye out for um radars..

 

 

At first I thought spending 50 bucks would be cool, but after doing a bit of research it turns out I'd have to spent 200+ dollars for one of these fuckers, just for it to be decent.           And id have to use a car infront of me as a bait car to counter measure instant on radar detectors....

Err.. my dad had a couple at one point. It's illegal to buy and sell them in MD, but you can use them. In VA, it's legal to buy and sell, but not to use.

First thing I got when I bought my car way back when was my radar detector. I don't drive like an asshole, I just live in an area with a lot of shitty speed traps. I use the radar detector as more of a fail safe. As far as the "best" brand I've heard Valentine has legit detectors, but they're expensive. 

 

As far as legality goes, radar detectors are mostly legal in private non-commercial vehicles.. laser jammers are illegal in some states...

Like you said, there is instant on radar now and also laser guns are a bitch to detect. Now some really expensive and cool ones can help you... They even have ones that detects the laser and sends back another one that messes it up(but it only works at a long distance so it is a warning) The cheaper ones that do radar/laser can give you a quick heads up if the officer misses aiming at you and you have a split second to slow down but if you are going fast it is obvious you slammed on brakes(which with the amount of time you have to react you pretty much have to slam on the brakes) Then there is the fact that most of the detectors are very visible and obvious(the really expensive ones can be hidden) so if you do get pulled over the officer is going to know what it is and is not going to be happy(and if you travel to other states it could even be illegal!)

Even if you don't need directions it is nice to have. Real users can "report" different things like congestion, construction, road closures, hazards, and VISIBLE POLICE.

I use Waze in more populated areas but i live outside of a bigger city where not many people use Waze, but a lot of cops use radar (sometimes laser).

 

Main reason I want a detector is for more situational awareness, but I don't want one that is going to be annoying and give false warnings or not detect instant on blasts of radar etc.

I've got one, buddy bought it for $100-150 but sold it to me for $50 and It's saved my ass too many times to count. The things are seriously life savers man, had it mounted on my bike above the speedometer and now it's mounted on the dash in my car.

Right now it's set on highway since that way I get more range on when I'm warned about the incoming radar. If you tend to go over the speed limit i suggest you get one right now (even if you don't, get one anyways), seriously

Already got a save with my Passport, it went off before line of sight. The Sheriff tailgated me for a minute after he clocked my speed (40 in a 40), I would've definitely been caught and I think he tailgated me cause he was mad he couldn't get me lel

 

 

Also: Also picked up a highway patrol from my school parking lot (thought it was a false lel), seen him drive by on the highway a good while after my detector went off

Hard to use the Waze app on a bike, this I know. 

 

I need to get one of these, because after one ticket it literally pays for itself. But I've also stopped breaking the law for the most part, so I haven't been worried about getting pulled over.

Yup, the new detector I got has been helping i'm probably gonna pick up the extended warranty for it too, since they'll fix it if it stop working on its own (and it sits in the suns a lot).

 

paid 300 for it, 2 year extended warranty is 30 I consider it an investment.
