BLiNDBoi 930 Posted September 5, 2013 Yeah, this topic/thread makes me feel awkward because I know a good deal of shit when it comes to PCs, however laptops and finding a good mid range one make me go, "well, fuck!" So, I am looking for a laptop for basic use plus some light gaming aka playing cs:go with a decently good frame rate. That being said, I have found example of an laptop that I like to have but I know better to not get it. Its a laptop, I have a gaming rig already, price and oh its a laptop again. Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152393 I guess my budget is around 600, I can go higher but I prefer not to. Purpose of the laptop is to be able to travel home for example without having to lug my rig around. Example, winter vacation from school, its a pain in the ass to lug my computer home for a week or two just to lug it back to my dorm. So give me some suggestions sG. Brand names? etc etc.
Skotti 2105 Posted September 5, 2013 (edited) Lenovo y510 if you wanna stretch your budget like 300 more dollars. they have sales all the time. I just bought the y510p last night for 1000. The Y series all have dedicated GPU's and most of them have a 25GB SSD for fast booting + 1TB HDD. I'm looking forward to mine. http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y510p/ Edited September 5, 2013 by Skotti 1 Sean reacted to this
Ghost X 710 Posted September 5, 2013 (edited) You can run csgo perfectly on a Intel HD4000. Just saying as a reference. And with the new Intel haswell processors that have a HD4600 it will run even better. So basically an ultrabook can run those "light" games perfectly while saving money, power and heat from a dedicated GPU. Source: my macbook got a HD4000 and a GT650M. Noobzilla 185 Posted September 5, 2013 http://www.lpc-digital.com/ If you use this site they have various Clevo and sager brand laptops that you can then customize for optimal specs and other things.Even if you get the lowest cost laptop the specs are pretty awesome. The price's are a little bit on the high side but the laptops are sooooo nice. I use an ASUS and have never had any problems, don't get Toshiba as you'll spend about 3 hours removing all the bloatware they ship on their computers, same with Dell. I'd suggest Sony, ASUS, Acer or Lenovo.

Spell 331 Posted September 5, 2013 Welp, Apparently I linked the wrong link earlier. I had 2 lenovo's i was looking at, that one and a newer one. merely was a mis-copied link. Eitherway, those seem to be good in terms of specs, but let us have skotti tell us once he gets it in.
Oreo 2073 Posted September 5, 2013 Lenovo is terrible, they bought the IBM brand and pretty much ruined the computers. I don't honestly like them at all.

I'd suggest Sony, ASUS, Acer or Lenovo. Not like it is really hard + I personally never used windows 8 which I will be forced to use. So there is a good chance I'll just format it with my win7 pro instead lol. Yes, Asus tends to be a personal favorite of mine, so staying away from the mass produce crap computers such as Dell is a given. Which is now I have to ask this dumbass question: Refurbished? dodge or try? Edited September 6, 2013 by BLiNDBoi
Joscal 339 Posted September 6, 2013 I dunno about refurbished for a new laptop.Additionally, I actually like windows 8 on my new laptop...after I figured out how to disable the fullscreen gesture.I would be willing to attempt to play csgo on this laptop and let you know my fps...it will probably be poor. But hey it was $350.

My Rig CPU: i7 920 passmark score of 5,027 @ 2.67GHz, current overclocked to 3.2GHz.My Rig GPU: Radeon HD 7850 1GB, passmark score of 3,703. Laptop CPU: i7-3630QM passmark score of 7761. Upgrade in comparison but not really a highlight I give two shits about.Laptop GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7670M passmark score of 835. Not bad I guess, better than one of ones I was looking at before looking at passmark scores. Thus far I like this suggestion, within my budget and probably be more than I will ever need in a laptop. Ghost X 710 Posted September 6, 2013 The resolution on that toshiba is terrible for a 15,6". It would be acceptable on a 10-13".
BLiNDBoi 930 Posted September 6, 2013 The resolution on that toshiba is terrible for a 15,6". It would be acceptable on a 10-13".Incorrect, that's standard. 15.6" screens are 1366x768 resolution. Opinions of the following choices? Dunno why I am tempted by option #1, because its a pretty good deal for the price + the processor is a APU which is AMD's cpu/gpu mix processors. Option #1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215663CPU: 2724 passmarkGPU: 835 passmarkCost: $559 Option #2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314183CPU: 3146 passmarkGPU: 990 passmarkCost: $539(No optical drive, but better hardware and cheaper) Option #3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230988CPU: 4016 passmarkGPU: 413 passmarkCost: $579 Option #4: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314205CPU: 7070 passmarkGPU: 465 passmarkCost: $629 Option #5: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834216538CPU: 3250 passmarkGPU: 950 passmarkCost: $
