Need help with watercooling my GPU

Recommended Posts

First of all I want to say that my GPU (GTX 590) is a year old, still perfect but runs pretty hot. It was very expensive so I would like to use it for at least 3 more years.

So I've decided to go and water cool it. I'm already water cooling my CPU but that's basically screwing and mounting.

The GPU water cooling is different.

I already found a waterblock for my card: http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/XSPC-Razor-nVidia-GTX-590-Full-Coverage-VGA-Block-Reference-Design-/271250867684?pt=US_Video_Card_GPU_Cooling&hash=item3f27cfc5e4&_uhb=1 .

Now my question is if you guys have any guide how to set it up and what else I need (water pump, etc)

Thanks.

We need to know more information about your current setup like your Res size, Pump and how much coolant it can push.

I have nothing yet, I need to buy everything.

I got a Antec Ninehundred Two V3 case and Antec kühler H2O 620 for my CPU.

I'm just gonna use the water cooler for my GPU to keep stuff easy.

Well if your just going to do 2 separate loops you don't need a big res, and you could probably get away with a small radiator and a small pump.

Do you think it's possible to put that radiator on the side of my case?

You set it up by not setting it up. Never go liquid cooling on an expensive rig as your first. In a last-ditch scenario, just do a CPU loop and make sure it runs. With a video card that expensive, you want to make sure you have somebody who knows what they're doing set it up for you. Learn from their actions in future builds or watch anything water-cooling from LinusTechTips' channel on youtube. He does several different guides with different types of cooling loops and part choices

I also found this: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/277130-29-read-first-watercooling-sticky .

It doesn't seem that hard, but you're making me scared now lol

Don't read what mofl is saying to much. Liquid cooling now mainly uses liquids that don't conduct electricity. That being said the tomshardware sticky thing to read.

No offense Mofl not All Liquids = a bad time in case of a leak.

You could always do this which is how I have it currently setup with the metal bracket.

During this hot season while under load I peak at about 63C, my rad could probably use a cleaning also. I'm also just using a mediocre H50 because I was on a budget. So you can watercool your GPU without as much worry for under $100

Just a thought.

The question is, do you really need it to be liquid cooled?

obviously keeping temps down, but are they that high? 70c? 80c? 90c?

OR

A high overclock?

Silence?

Just to look good?

Im just curious.

I only have my CPU cooled since i rather keep my glowing geforce logo :)

and i get pretty chill temps so i wouldnt need to liquid cool.

Bullshit. Regardless of conductivity, treat all liquids like they destroy your computer upon contact. The moment even a nonconductive liquid becomes contaminated, you run the risk of shorting out a part. Any moderately-experienced modder who doesn't use http://www.pcpartpicker.com knows this. GPU gets 80°C when playing GPU intensive games. A overclock with watercooling would be nice if I get trouble with framerates which I haven't had with any game yet.

That's good for a single GPU, but my GTX 590 has 2

Forgot about the double post and multi quote :(

Yeh, i mean those GPU's can take the excess of 90c without a problem, but keeping it that temp for a long period of time daily is not recommended obviously.

With water cooling, those GPU's should not go over 60c, i mean, they shouldnt.

Depending the type of radiator size. what do you plan on?

What do you recommend? I got this case:http://content.hwigroup.net/images/products/xl/110099/11/antec_nine_hundred_two_v3.jpg . The back fan is replaced with the fan and radiator of my water cool unit on my CPU.

Just by looking at it, i'm guessing the front 2x 120mm fan mounts are in front of the drive cages?

if they are removable, you could possibly fit a 240mm rad in the front, depending on the space.

a single 120mm rad is quite possible though.

Well I've read some guy installing a corsair h100i in the front of the same case I have so it must be possible.

My HDD is in the very bottom in the first drive cage, will it still be able to be there then?

http://www.overclock.net/t/1022438/first-time-water-cooled-build-internal-240-rad-antec-900

Found a lot on this thread with the same case :)

Lets start by making a list of stuff I need.

-Radiator: http://www.freezinghardware.eu/product/6908/EK_Water_Blocks_EK-CoolStream_RAD_XT_240.html

- Water block: http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/XSPC-Razor-nVidia-GTX-590-Full-Coverage-VGA-Block-Reference-Design-/271250867684?pt=US_Video_Card_GPU_Cooling&hash=item3f27cfc5e4&_uhb=1

- Reservoir: What size should i use?

- pump: any suggestions?

- fittings: help which ones to pick? (guess these: http://www.freezinghardware.eu/product/312/Rechte_inschroefverbinding_14_-_8x1_-_zilver_nickel.html)

- tubes: those that fit with the other stuff

Did I forget anything?

Mofl lets assume for a moment that if your going to invest in Liquid cooling which the initial startup cost for a moderately good setup is going to cost you anywhere from 300-600 you would take the time to also be looking up to keep your non-conductive fluids as such with additives such as kill coil or anti-algae. Also you and foha both seem to have a hard on with assuming using a website to find the cheapest part you are looking at mean you are not experienced I don't see your logic in it.

I'm not using a website to find the cheapest parts. I look everything up and so far I only found 2 waterblocks for my 590 on the internet.

Non-conductive fluids are pretty much bullshit. The moment they hit an impurity, they conduct. As for PCPP, you don't do research beforehand, just like you obviously didn't research your fluids, so fuck that and fuck you.

Chief, seriously, you're risking over $2000 in parts, please seek a professional. Water, stop talking like you know anything about computers

Mofl I have been building and modding computers 13 years. I have a very good idea of what I am talking about. But if your only advice to him is to go to a 3rd party to get all his water cooling parts he is going to spend  700-1000 when he could do it himself and learn how to support his own system for 300-600.  Master Chief read these thread at Overclock.net they are a wealth of knowledge.
