Microshaft reverses DRM policies on Xbone

Recommended Posts

Way better than kgames thread. 10/10 would bang this thread again.

On topic: No one is buying this thing if it still going to track everything you do and say in front of the camera at all times.

It doesn't. You can turn all the features off and microsoft would never do that in the first place.

Programmers are going to be working hella long nights changing just about everything for the console release. Also, they still reserve the right to reinstate it in a future update, not that the would or else they would have flaming Xbones flying through the HQ.

Didn't see anything saying the kinect wont be watching/recording when you're online.

Will consider buying before Halo 5 is released. I wont pre-order it or anything, probably get one in a year or so.

This was never a thing, just wild speculation.

not necessarily.

I'm assuming you didn't read the statement

So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games
– After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today
– There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline, just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console — without any regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One.
Sharing games will work as it does today; you will simply share the disc
. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold.
Playing disc-based games will require the disc to be in the tray
.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

still day 1 digital, and trading games or w/e.

I don't think many people would've used the "family sharing" anyway.

You can't dig a hole that is too deep when neither console comes out for months.

Like everything else this will blow over and honestly isn't as big of a deal as everyone is making it.

Everyone was against sony when they removed otheros and PSN was hacked exposing personal information. People forget so quickly.

It really amazes me how ignorant people can be completely calling a generation before it has even started.

What the fuck are you talking about? Microsoft tried to set a precedent and have been pushed way the fuck back. This isnt something you forget. OtherOS and the hacking issue which by the way didnt actually compromise enough data to legitimately hurt anyone is trivial compared to this. Had the Xbox One somehow been successful with these kinds of business practices wouldve pushed others to do the same.

Alright, let's talk again when the sales for PS4 and Xbox One of Q1 are out.
