Memorial Day

Recommended Posts

So, I'm sure yall are or have had a pretty good day today, or this weekend. Probably drank your fill, had some fun, enjoyed time with your friends and ate some really good food. That's pretty awesome, good for you. I did the same.

But I also did something else that wasn't so fun and wasn't so awesome. This morning, first thing I did before going anywhere for fun, I went to Gate 1 Fort Carson. Kit Carson Park and walked along the rocks they have there.

Each rock has five groups of names. Ten names in each of these groups. There were six rocks in this fashion, the sixth one having twenty seven names on it for a total of Three Hundred and Seventy Seven soldiers that have died during Operation Iraqi Freedom as well as Operation Enduring Freedom. Those are the deaths from Ft. Carson alone, in just the years these wars have occurred. In total, 6,648 soldiers have died since the beginning of this war, that is not counting the tens of thousands of lives that have died since the beginning of this country.

So... I know that there isn't much left time in the day, and that's fine. But take some time in the coming days, if you haven't already, to find out where your local memorial is and visit it. Leave some beer for them to drink. Leave some roses for the love lost. Leave a memento of the tomorrows that they never got to have that they gave up so that you could enjoy your tomorrows.

Above all... remember why you have this weekend and the price paid by men and women greater than many of us.

6 year anniversary of my Grandpa's death, he was in the military, he was never in battle, he built tanks, but he was the best guy you could ever know, great post blackstone. Glad we can have a post to remeber what's so important about this day.

Even if I don't agree with our mission in the Middle East, I respect our soldiers. I'm glad we have people willing enough to fight in order to maintain freedoms for people around the world.
