Spoutcraft

So when researching how to combat hackers, I came across SpoutCraft. It has a lot of cool features like being able to screenshot clients, custom blocks and items, forced downloads, forced texture packs.

It's harder to use hacks with because it has client integrity checks, the screenshots, and I just haven't been able to find any for it at all.

The only downside is you have to download a different client to use with it, and it doesn't run bukkit plugins, just spout plugins. None of this is gamebreaking, and we could port our current world, or start a new one.

Sounds good. Would this have any affect on us gaining non sg players? Basically building up a new population like our other servers have.

Yes. Not hugely significant, but all players would be required to download and run the Spout client, which is as simple as that. You gain so much from it, though.

I'm against having to download another client to just play on sG's minecraft, simply because its a much bigger hassle to get things working based on how i like them(Alot of my building mods for distance/surface detection) as well as not allowing custom texture packs(Because let's face it, default minecraft is bland as fuck).

I thought spout could run bukkit plugins if you have bukkit bridge.

as long as everyone is aware that the more dependencies we add to the server like this in order to port plugins between coremods, the longer it takes to update the plugins when a minecraft update is released

I do think something needs to be done about hacking since the last couple times I've been raided is either through X-ray or breaking blocks in my house, (POLLO) but this isn't it.

I've used Spoutcraft before, and it's pretty nice. I remember having the server owner on a different server having it so he could play music to all on the server, custom area sounds (walk into spawn and hear a nice town-like theme), forced textures I never had a problem with seeing as he picked a nice one. There's a lot of nice things you can do with Spout for customization server side and there's a lot of anti cheat plug-ions to go with it.

I don't play on the sG MC server, I'm just saying Spout craft isn't a hassle to deal with. You click on a different launcher, it makes it's own folder (no .jar switching), and boom you're done.

The file is like 2.6 mb if you are too lazy to download that, then you really don't need to play. This is the only real way to fight people hacking and really is necessary at this point.

Clear up a couple of things here:

The spout server isn't finished yet, so it's actually part bukkit and bukkit plugins will work fine.

The spout client has not been updated to 1.5 yet (still on 1.4.7) but it should be very soon.

The spout client runs as a seperate exe and does not use the .minecraft folder, but it's own.

Forced texture packs aren't a requirement, just a possibility.

Now that you've posted this, I fully support using SpoutCraft.
