PSU Calculator

Anyone have any reccomendations they would take for PSU Calculations? I can google it but I want to see if any of you have your own personal preferences.

I have a friend who is trying to change his GPU from some old 200 series shit to a 680 and want to see if a PSU upgrade is necessary.

really, for a single card, anything over 600 watt is fine.

Newegg has a built in PSU calc on their website. It was useful in my PSU acquisition.

also, a 280 uses more power than a 680, but I'm sure the lower cards use less than a 680.

but wattage isnt the only thing you need to look for.

you need to make sure the 12 volt rail puts out enough amps.

and with the calculator i would add about 15 to 20% more wattage to what they tell you.

I've used this and it's accurate, it's actually more important to have a quality PSU than you may think and not all of them are super expensive either. Actual power draw on cards aren't what they say they need, look at any gpu review with a load wattage test and you will see. They say numbers like 500W because they normally bank on people having bad PSU's that can't supply their rated numbers.
