Google Chrome not playing sound

Recommended Posts

For some reason google chrome stopped playing any sound starting yesterday and I haven't found a solution for it yet. I tried re-installing adobe flash player and google chrome. Anyone know what might be wrong?

I personally use Firefox but I do have chrome installed; version 21.0.1180.60. I obviously do not have any issues at all, just watched a random youtube video with sound.

Try some of these options:

  • Check for updates for both chrome and your sound drivers.
  • Check settings under the volume mixer to see if chrome is muted.
  • Check on the sound playback (in control panel), look for sound or lack of sound visual bars.
  • Try reinstalling sound drivers.

Other than this I can't help you too much unless you somehow found a shortcut to mute chrome and hit it without knowing it.

I'm having the same problem too. But I got a temporary fix.

Temp Fix

Found this on another post and it worked for me. Flash videos are playing and playing with sound now.
-Go to chrome://plugins
-Click and expand +Details in the Upper Right
-Check over the flash files.
-One is version 11.3.31.222, the other two show version 11,3,300,268
-Disable the odd version (11.3.31.222) and reload the flash content
This seems to fix it for the time being.
I think it was Kory A that posted this.

Infact this will probably be your solution, I just remembered I also rolled by my flash driver to 11.2.202.235 due to volume mixer problems and so far I have no reasons to update it seems as the current drivers totally suck.
