It's about that time again for another poker tourney. There are two weekends that the tourney can be done so first we'll decide on a weekend then a specific date so one more poll will be made in about a week.

RASPUTIN reacted to wind.exe in Sample Outline for a Future Tournament
With all the complications and stuff between match times and rosters, the tournament managed to finish fully with team splewis ending up on top. That being said, of course there were its problems and many things that can be changed in order to make it smoother.
Positivies:
-Script in the servers worked out well, including the OT script that was written
-Common maps were played and many people were able to adapt to maps that they were not super comfortable with
-Slight lag issues, but the servers managed to run relatively smoothly with small lag spikes here and there
Negatives:
-People being no-shows and the amount of forfeits that ensued
-Time slots were a killer on the weekend and required large amounts of time
-Too much energy drain having to play up to 3 maps in one night, as well as up to 3 matches in a night
New Tournament Outline Idea
-Double elimination bracket will be held in place so that people are not "one-and-doned"
-Adjusted settings that will lead to (example) rounds 1-3 being only best of 1 maps that had been pre-set a couple of days ahead, as well as the times. Next few rounds can be set with either bo3's or bo1's depending on what people vote
+This will drain less energy on the players as well as allow smaller time slots to be needed in order to complete the games
+As a comparison to last tournament which was a 10 man, double elimination
-Example; Round 1 and 2 of winners, as well as the first round of Losers can be played with only requiring at most 2 hours of a persons time. Winners Round 3 and 4, Losers Round 2 and 3 could be played the next day in which another 2 hours at max would be needed. The problem would then be the final day in which a team may end up playing up to 3 hours which would be the same commitment as a first round game in this past tournament. Allows for open time slots and even scheduling to be possible.
-Teams will be picked as per last 2 tournaments, but there may be a requirement skill wise in order to have fair teams created via captains knowing the players they would want to choose. Or having a ranking system created either through numerical numbers or MM skill to allow those who do not know peoples ranks to get a better understanding of how good they are.
-Teams will be made of either 5 OR 6 players, to be decided by the amount of players signed up
-Same settings as per last tournament with bomb timers and round timer
I'm sure that there will be a lot of other things added in but having a very simple tournament like this can lead to quick games as well as allow for smoother play since most times can be adjusted around the teams time restrains whether through planned things or region times. A tournament like this can be competed in a single weekend, if not a weekend and maybe another day during the week.

To add on to the original idea, I would change the map selection process of pool elimination. This way is used in many fighting games and sometimes in CS:GO tourney and works as follows;
There would be a list of maps that are able to be played, usually from 5 to like 9 or so
+Each team would alternate eliminating maps that they would not want to play until 1 map is left, or in bo3's that 3 are left
+The higher team would start eliminating maps first
+Sides would be decided through a knife fight, as per traditional, of every cs-game
+In a best of 3 scenario, once 3 maps remained after the elimination process, the higher seed would choose the first map to be played, the lower seed would choose the 2nd map to be played, and the final map would be left as the 3rd by default.
This process allows for strategic play in just eliminating maps that they may know gives an advantage to the opposing team

I disagree, a lot of people who signed up for the tournament wanted to just play and didn't care about winning. A "season" or league format would let everyone play a handful of matches. It is still a viable option. People who signed up and didn't want to play, didn't show, as seen in this tournament. Season/league format is less draining as you can spread it out over a few weeks/months and play like what 1 match a week?
Anyway, I also like wind's proposal. An additional thought for loser's bracket, we could do bo1s like they do in The International Dota 2 tourney which would make loser's bracket games a lot more interesting and also a lot quicker and less draining for those who keep winning in the loser's bracket.

100% agree. However, If someone mentions a "season" of any kind just be aware that if a team drops out of contention for the finals then that entire team is probably going to lose the drive to even want to finish their season out and likely won't. A season won't be a valid option with our community.

RASPUTIN reacted to Dyscivist in sG CS:GO Tournament [Jan. 2014]
Except it isn't fine at all because teams get a huge strategic advantage for picking something like mill that no one even has access to through the CS:GO matchmaking system, to the point at which the chance for a team that doesn't know the map to win against a team that does is infinitesimal. It's stupid that it's even on the list, as I'm sure most of the players in the tourney don't have ESEA, and it's just going to be abused without a veto system to make really shitty games for the people that don't know it.
