I can't buy into the early hype yet. Once the prelims start, sure. The year long compendium style of rewards is too strenuous both gameplay wise and in the wallet department to care about the exclusitivity of items. Immortal items used to mean something. TI chests were special. None of that joy is here anymore  they made everything special, so nothing became special anymore.

 

so in that regard, TI isnt as hype as it used to be. But the gameplay will still hopefully be exciting as always once it rolls around.

But its not just the event and the open quals and direct invites that make it special its the months of storyline all coming together at the biggest tournament DOTA hosts every year. The community has seen new champions every year, Teams knocked out by underdogs(DC taking out EG), underdogs making it to the grand stage(DC), Teams collapsing from past Major wins(OG). It is much bigger than just a couple of days of matches is months of work all coming together. While I disagree with having the TI compendium out so quickly after the Winter Major this is also the biggest prize pools thanks to its community that watches and loves the game.
