Rule Enforcement, and an Arena

Why don't we start instituting one day forum bans for things like posting kiddie porn, or goatse pics, or racism, or flaming. People don't generally want to see that, and they don't need to. We can, however, open a members only section where anything goes- an Arena, where nothing is censored, no matter how vile, so that everyone can get everything off of their chests. Whatcha think?

Problem is, I have a very loose definition of racism from reading dozens of academic articles, memoirs, and from personal experience on the issue, and there are people here who would define racism as "lulz if I'm not saying it to a black person then it doesn't matter." Whose definition do we use.

Same with flaming, who defines "flaming."

No, that wouldn't fly either. Not all black people would be unoffended, so its racist. In fact, the majority would be.

And we'd have to use judgement- if someone is intentionally trying to start something, then they should be punished, flaming directly or not.

Indirect personal attacks is still a very loose system, because some people take way too much offense to somethings I say that are more of harsh constructive criticism, I've stated in this forum, if I say something negative about you, don't take it seriously, because I am not. It's like trying to filter the internet though, it's not possible, people will slip through unpunished. Like Junzou said, who's to say what's allowed and what's not, there would have to be a really strict indepth set of rules to be able to enforce this sort of thing.

Black isn't really racist when you break it down, because there's so many different ethnicities that make up "Black" culture-- It's more offensive to call a Jamaican American an African American than it is to call them "Black." African and Caribbean Americans are more closely tied to their ethnic roots, whereas over the past 300+ years we have seen the formation of a new "Black" subculture that hardly resembles the root culture(s) from which it came. Personally, I reserve African/Caribbean/Haitiian/etc American for first or second generation immigrants/refugees that I know, or am fairly certain, identify as such.

I'm coming up with ideas. I have no power to decide how, or even if, they will be implemented. Hell, I don't even agree with all of my ideas- but they are for the benefit of more than just me, so I like them and will try to get them done anyway.

As to why I'm only wanting to ban the obvious shit- the admins of the forum generally don't give a fuck. We ban people for racism, flaming, and other things like that from our servers. Permanently. But you come to the forums and get a free pass?

So, for now, I just want to ban the really obvious things that people can't wriggle out of due to an unwillingness to prosecute.
