upgrading vid cards

Recommended Posts

1 1080

SLI and Crossfire offer minimal gains and most devs don't even support it anymore.

Pick up a TI when they come out.

Stick with 1. No reason to deal with SLI issues when the 10x0 series are great. If you're just gaming, a 1070 is probs more than you need. I'd only suggest getting a 1080 if you also plan on using 3d modeling software often (e.g. you're a graphics artist).

The 1080ti is coming out next week apparently. If you can wait, this could drive the price down of the current 10x0 cards. You can then either buy the cheaper card or use the money you would've spent on a 1070 (and then some) on a 1080ti. If you don't mind buying used, you could also look out for deals from people who want to upgrade from a 1070/1080 to the 1080ti.

If you still haven' gotten your video card you don't need a 1080 unless you are playing games at 1440 144fps with most stuff on high and it won't even reach 144fps it'll only get around 100 if you put new games up to ultra. The new 1080TI can get 1440 144fps on new games. A 1070 can do 1080 144fps. A 1060 can do 1080 60 fps. Rx 480 is around the same as 1060 but will get better than 1060 over time. (Amd cards get better than Nvidia over the years). If you are playing cs:go the rx480 will easily get you 1440 144fps except on some ZE maps like frostdrake where you get dips to 60-80 fps.
