PC Security and ways to improve it.

Gee, I sure want to be mining bitcoins. "But, but, it's so obvious!!!!!!!!" Not to the people that first downloaded it.

Feel free to continue researching on your own.

How do you tell if a download is out of place, aside from comments on the file, ratings, etc.? Not everyone might comment on it or acknowledge it. People also don't always make files labeled "WindozeBuster.exe." The whole point of it is to be discreet.

Sorry, but being a complete fucking retard and making comparisons to Limewire, where a disgustingly vast amount of its space was malware infested, and Google, something that does not directly relate to downloading and also allows for a much easier discriminating between links, does not strengthen your point. And, obviously, not every single file is going to infect you. Not every shady porn site is going to infect you. The whole point is reducing risk; this is something that flew over your head.

How can you pirate a game while not questioning a folder that has a name like OaPja?

Everyone in this clan needs to start by scanning their computer with whatever anti-malware software whenever they're suspicious. Next on the list of things that needs to be done is have some god damn common sense. That's why half of the kids in sG have infected computers which send people on their friends lists links to even more malware. Just use common sense. Don't click that clearly retarded link. There is no excuse for lack of common sense.

No one in my household apart from myself has administrative access to their computer 'cause I don't wanna have to hear one day that someone's savings just got completely withdrawn, but that still isn't enough security. Having software to scan everything you download or run and determine whether or not it's a threat isn't enough either. You just gotta start thinking about what you're doing and ensure you aren't just relying blindly on that antivirus, which could have gone months without being updated even. Like 90% of people whose systems become infected were ignorant of what they were doing when they got infected. They just have this blind faith in their antivirus to take care of everything.

But I mean, you aren't going to learn how to properly use your computer without experience in getting infected. Sooooo, Trucka, now that you've had to reinstall Windows, what did you learn from this? Do you know what exactly you downloaded or installed which could have infected your computer?

Private trackers, filters 99% of the BS out there.

I would recommend when browsing for something new and maybe questionable to open up a VM (virtual machine) and do what you need to there. Make sure that disable options that allow you to interact between the VM and the actual computer. I also have my VM revert to its previous state every time I shut down the VM. I can go into more detail if you want, just ask.

MS Security Essentials

Not opening email attachments

well known streaming porn sites. don't DL anything.

this is all i do

also, if you do download fishy shit on purpose, scan that shit with the best you can scan with, heuristics and all that (even though most game cracks will be flagged as viruses using heuristics)

I lol at the criticism in this thread.

Most of what has been said is true. generally just use caution on the interwebs. If using windows exercise caution, Linux is a bit safer but not fully safe, fuck mac (you heard me fags, their security is terribad.). For me it usually depends on what I am doing, if it's something different or i am just going to screw around I go and use T.A.I.L.S. For gaming, windows is considerably better for support. But to each their own.

(No I will not link to the way to get T.A.I.L.S. google it yourself, plus i don't need the NSA watching me, thanks.)

If I torrent, I get it from a private tracker, so torrenting shouldn't really be an issue one thing i did do however was add a bunch of TTS voices to my registry.  I guess this could have been the issue but honestly it probably wasn't. All I know is that my windows a day later was making my screen flicker and stuck on the loading screen after the windows logo and before actual login to an windows account. I just wanted a sexy TTS :'(

Doesnt sound like that was a virus m8. Probably coulda fixed that with a system restore from safe mode w/ networking.

As for the private tracker torrents, still use caution with what you download.
