Everyone thinks oh god EOD must have some big balls but there are so many safeties put into place to minimize deaths, from plastic tools for bombs with magnetic triggers to the robots themselves. Most of the guys I knew that were hit while defusing were due to enemy sniper fire or driving over pressure plates, which is what happened to me many times but I am thankful it happened in the early 2000's when the stupid bomb makers were still alive.
