2008 CBR600RR Build

Recommended Posts

Already started to build this up without much pictures.

So far I've tackled doing front suspension rebuild, fork seals, rebuilt with racetech springs for my weight.

Rear suspension swapped to a 2011 OEM CBR, due to a design flaw in the 08 causing the preload adjuster to break.

Chinese shorty levers in silver.

Woodcraft stator and timing covers.

DID ZX chain. (not pictured)

Side mirrors replaced with a fresh set of OEM ones.

Silver chinese bar end sliders

Some install photos from doing the stator cover. Yes, I know my garage is a wreck. I put it on it's side to do the stator cover because I didn't want to drain the relatively new oil I had put in it.

Up next is rebuilding the tail section. The battery box is cracked into several pieces from a previous lay down, that will be replaced with an OEM i got from the junkyard. New wiring and license plate bracket that are actually california legal. The fender kit will be a Puig chinese clone, and mounted with it will be Rizoma Zero 11 turn signals. I will use the existing tail light with plans to eventually buy and install a tail integrated one.

Also have a new upper nose piece in the works to replace the broken one, currently just need to do the sanding and buffing on the clear coat.

Plans to remove and polish entire exhaust, hopefully remove slight bend from the very tail section that makes the pipe sit slightly off center.

Red aluminum fairing bolt kit.

Repaint tail cowl with silver that actually matches OEM silver.

Timing and clearance. (Having my mechanic do that one).

Akrapovic hexagonal carbon exhaust (eventually...)

Bought the bike in december with 13k miles, and I'm about to hit 17k.

Damn you're riding the fuck out of it. Putting me to shame. I've had mine 2 years this august and only put on 6000 miles.

I was really startled when the bike was on its side. #justbikerthings

Buy a high quality bolt kit, or the anodizing will fade in less than a year.

Any recommendations? Most kits I see are no-name brands to me, or simply branded as like "Japanese fairing bolt kit"

Also I use my bike to commute, which is a big reason I got sport touring tires. M-Th I put like 40 miles a day just going from class to work and what not.

Did an oil change on the bike today with some 10w-30 Royal Purple with a half quart of Polytron metal treatment concentrate added in, K&N filter. Was super sad to see that my stator replacement leaked some oil down onto the bottom fairing. I'll have to redo the stator cover seal, think I'll just go with a precut dry gasket this time :x

I cannot recommend something sadly, I don't like bolt kits.

I can recommend some websites for awesome LEDs and tail kits.

I'd love to see the tail kit, also looking at LED's for doing blinkers on my passenger pegs or something of that nature, was gonna splice all the wiring together so I'd have 3 sets of blinkers, lol. I want the integrated tail, the Rizomas, and more on the passenger pegs. Also looking for maybe a solid kit to do turn signal mirrors or adapting some Ducati ones. With the flush mounted greggs you can't see the blinkers from head on.

Cheapest Rizoma's I've ever found are here: http://www.pjsparts.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=59

They no longer carry the "Action" however. Sad day.

Here's something, you could try changing your instrument cluster LED's:http://cbrforum.com/forum/f4i-main-forum-11/f4i-gauge-cluster-led-change-help-needed-135424/

Site to get the LED's:http://www.unique-leds.com/index.php?target=categories&category_id=186

Make sure you order the right ones. Those work for my bike, but unsure if for yours.

Tail light kit: http://www.joinsg.net/topic/59619-2008-cbr600rr-build/#entry804130

The kit is probably the brightest and highest quality I've seen. And includes integrated signals. Also bright as fuck. Shows other reccomended parts in description.

I've already purchased the Rizoma's, they're on the way. I have looked at doing the cluster, I like the write up. Probably go red to match the rest of the trim I'm dong on the bike.

Also the link to the one thing that I really wanted is the wrong copy pasta.  "Tail light kit: http://www.joinsg.net/topic/59619-2008-cbr600rr-build/#entry804130"

I've been looking for a high quality tail because I've heard the chinese ones weather really fast, and just aren't that bright.

Little confused on this one. It looks like it replaces the standard tail light on the stock fender kit. But I look through their product page and they have a bunch of other ones that look as if they fit to become part of the tail so to speak. I was looking for that was someone along these lines.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/251187809803?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought "integrated" meant integrated with the tail. Now I'm beginning to believe it just means the tail light and turn signals integrated into one unit.

The one pictured on their site looks like it fits the stock fender

I have some crappy after market fender elimination kit, and have actually found it hard to find the standard stock fender/license plate kit.

Probably right, I've never owned one, but I've bought LED kits from em but not Honda specific. The aftermarket exhaust is what is causing compatibility issues.

Finally, I thought you just let the bike rot away, good to know you're still on it. How much has it costed you so far? All I've done to my bike is basic maintenance and change out my brake pads haha

I'm probably about 1-1.5G into parts/mechanic bills etc at this point in my bike. I normally forget to list my maintenance because I just do it without thinking. When I did the top end rebuild, i replaced every fluid in the bike too.

So many honda scrubs in this clan.

Suzuki yaaas

Hey mang I luv my Honda. Did valves at 22k and they were all still in perfect factory spec, and the bike had been laid down like 4-5 times at that point. Also I like my less than super sport sitting position! All the squid kiddies either ride GSXRs or R6's here in cali, god forbid you choose the 600RR, it makes like 5 less HP don't you know!
