The concept behind the rank is entirely good, since it would be showing a heavy contributor to the community that is a good role model. The idea of having a member who contributes quite a bit while also being a recognizable face to the community is a great idea. The rank wouldn't be a stepping stone to legend, since legend in general has been an ex-jcs who have done a shit ton of work (Junzuo, Blob, Oracion are all really good examples). The rank is not suppose to be a "stepping down rank" as mofl put it, but rather a "stepping up" rank. You are given respect for your contributions, across all mediums and are the communities public face not tied with the staff "position or duties". You may argue that SO's do this, but SO's are normally of one server, rather than the community as a whole. The need of a merit based rank is there, since the ambiguity in tenure based ranks does not reflect at all on ones contributions or attitude. The old VIP rank was never used, and thus was eliminated. The idea of bringing back a merit based rank is to show that community members can have a major say and impact in well the community and can be seen as a person of guidance.
