My local news said that the FBI discovered the bomb to be a IED, what they used in Afghanistan. I'm not sure since I heard part of this when I was sleepy as hell. So someone had access to military arsenal to do the bombing.

Also, older guys death was due to a "number that we can't count" of bullets in him as well as shrapnel wounds, suggesting him running/limping/crawling at the cops and trying to blow himself up is true.
