Computer upgrading time!

Recommended Posts

Since tax returns and student loans are right around the corner I think I should upgrade this thing I call a computer.

What I want to upgrade:

CPU, Mobo, RAM, PSU (if needed) and possibly case. Pending on cost of internals.

What I plan to keep of my current build:

My two Hard drives:both are 500gb 7200rpm (don't tell me I need a SSD, cause I don't)

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121446

Powersupply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171036

What I plan to upgrade to:

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131837

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504

Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231585

Case: I need suggestions. I want white, but I also want good cable management. Less than $150 please.

According to neweggs PSU calculator, I don't need a bigger one.

This summer or fall I plan on upgrading my GPU again. Thanks in advance!!

Questions:

1. Are you going to overclock?

2. Which is more important looks or performance

3. Have you considered mATX or other form factor builds or are you open to them?

Statements:

1. That PSU isn't great but I suppose if you already have it, it's fine.

2. Newegg's PSU calculator is trash.

3. An SSD will make a VERY noticeable improvement in your system, I VERY HIGHLY SUPER RECOMMEND ONE.

No.

I don't need the fanciest computer, I think what I have chosen will be fine. I do want an aesthetically pleasing case though. Like I said in my post, I want decent (not perfect)

Fuck that

265 5 star reviews can't be that wrong. And it hasn't failed me in these two years once.

Yeah, but I have 150 watts above what is reccomended. So I think I'm fine.

Did you even read my post?

This ram grants the same performance will less voltage draw: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231536

Timing based off this chart located right meow: http://en.wikipedia....iki/CAS_latency

Well can I just use my old ram? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231275

It's practically the same.

I read your post, still doesn't mean you're wrong about the SSD's.

In that case I recommend:

Mobo - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813157302

RAM - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820148544

Want to know why I chose lower speed RAM? Maybe I'm being judgmental, but if you're not going to overclock you're also probably not going to mess around with the memory profile on the motherboard so it actually uses the speed of the RAM. With high speed RAM you can't just plug it in and run it at that speed, you have to mess around in the BIOS in order for it to run at that speed.

For the motherboard, it has plenty of features and the more expensive boards are generally just catered to overclocking, but since you're not overclocking they would just be a waste of money.

I don't know what to recommend for a case but I don't think what I suggest will matter since you will ignore it.

P.S. I saved you enough money to get an SSD.

Edit: Just use your old RAM if you're okay with 4gb

Seems that board has alot of issues. 1 out of 3 people have had a DOA. I would rather pay the extra 50 bucks from a reputable company when the DOA average seems to less.

The reason I don't need an SSD is because I'm okay with booting up a tad bit slower than lightspeed. I'm okay with having a less reliable (although its still pretty reliable) hard drive. I'm okay with mechanical moving parts.

As for the RAM, I have 8gb. I bought 4x2gb

I appreciate your opinion on overclocking. If I knew how to, I probably wouldn't be asking opinions on this build.

I'm still however looking through the vast amounts of cases on newegg. So I may just pick on out myself.

Okay so your best options are to keep your RAM, buy the CPU and Mobo and save yourself the money and everything else you have is fine. personally I like Corsair Cases but Lian-Li, Antec have some really nice cases.

Also SSD's aren't just for boot time, I guess you would have to see it in action or dive into it to appreciate it.

Stage one: Complete.

I reccomend this case, it appears to have excellent wire management, very stout. It's kinda heavy for a case, but I'm not complaining.

The build thus far:

All I'm waiting on is mobo and processor for a quick switch, then I'm good to go. I bought a VGA cord (shoulda went hdmi /retard) to dual screen with my tv. works pretty good besides the shit resolution.
