[Help]Counter Strike: Source Crashes after the "intros"

Recommended Posts

Alright, I launch up CS:S, for some reason the game gets ~ 800*800 down in the right corner of my left screen (My left screen is my "2" screen, It used to start at "1" before)

Now the intros and logos are playing down there, sounds are working too.

When the intros are done playing (or I press esc), counter strike exits, no errors..

My desktop settings, within windows7 and AMD Vision engine are set that my right monitor is my main, and it is identified as "1".

This happened after I updated my AMD Vision engine to version 12.6 (from 12.4)

I tried to unplug my second monitor, counter strike started up in the middle of the screen with a resolution of about 1080*1080..

The same thing occurred here though.

I have tried to reinstall and verify the game, as well deleting the cfg files manually.

Relevant info

Windows 7 Utlimate 64bits

8GB Ram

ATI Radeon HD 5870

Two BenQ monitors (1920*1080 and 1280*1024).

No changes was made, but the video update before this happened.

Oh well, it was Teemu who told me to do it.

On a more serious note, my main monitor ("1", Right) gets no signal during the into launch... it comes back after it crashes though..

try going back to amd vision 12.4 and see if it works.

I've learned to not update drivers unless i absolutely need to. Stick with one that works.

Why switch from 12.4 to 12.6?,

Well, the reason I updated my drivers was due to my resolution maximum went to 1600*x, out of the blue... Don't know what happened, so I figured an update was in order. Perhaps I should try 12.5, if there is any.

I got it working, this solved it. (From AMD tech support)

Steps:

1. Download Driver Sweeper (Install it).

2. Uninstall your Current Catalyst driver. ( Control Panel -> Uninstalling a program -> AMD Catalyst Install Manager -> Changes -> Custom Uninstall (Leave your chipset/usb drivers remove all the rest of the display drivers.)

3. Boot into safe mode (Hold down F8 during post to get into Safe mode) and run Driver Sweeper.

4. Clean and Analyze AMD display driver folder.

5. Reboot to normal Windows mode.

6. Install Catalyst again.

Please go to our website and download the latest drivers.
