Clay 24 Posted May 29, 2011 Spending close to $500 for a processor and motherboard makes me sad in the pants. You could get a Phenom II X6 and a high end AMD mobo for cheaper.

Contract Killer 24 Posted May 29, 2011 Just wait until Bulldozer :>. Goodbye Sandy bridge. No thanks, I could wait and see how BD does, but atm there is very little info on it so everything is mostly speculation. I'm not looking to turn this thread into Intel vs. AMD, I could care less.

Contract Killer 24 Posted May 29, 2011 AMD just hit their sweet spot too. My proc dropped from a steady $150 to $110.While I do think AMD is awesome for keeping something on a budget, I see it as this:I'm extremely skeptical about AMD being able to truly compete with Intel. The fact is, while it sucks that intel keeps changing their CPU sockets, they are doing it for good reason. AMD's attempt to ensure backwards compatibility has greatly hindered their ability to achieve great leaps in their technology, given that they have chosen to impose the limitations posed by the processor sockets in developing new CPU architecture and hardware. Intel, however, can freely design their new technology without putting such constraints on their development techs. Considering the X79 is going to be the replacement to the x58, that should definitely prove to be some amazing tech when it gets released. But I'll hold my breath in the mean time to see how this whole bulldozer thing plays out in the coming weeks.
ctark 1983 Posted May 29, 2011 your cooler looks interesting, but more than a couple reviews complained about it starting to leak... just something to keep in mind.
Clay 24 Posted May 29, 2011 Bulldozer is a completely new socket. And considering the i5 2500k doesn't really outdo AMDs offerings by a ridiculous amount, I'm still going to root for AMD. Intel motherboards are always expensive if you're getting a half decent one. You can get a high-end AMD mobo for around $100.
Contract Killer 24 Posted May 29, 2011 your cooler looks interesting, but more than a couple reviews complained about it starting to leak... just something to keep in mind. This is extremely rare, and the few that have Corsair has payed for all the damaged parts.
Oreo 2073 Posted May 29, 2011 While I do think AMD is awesome for keeping something on a budget, I see it as this:Bulldozer is not going to be backwards compatible and they've already mentioned that they're moving away from that idea entirely. I'll stop here because I don't want to make this a Intel vs AMD thread like you mentioned before. As for your setup it's great except you could probably get a better case. Contract Killer 24 Posted May 29, 2011 Woah guy, the HAF series is awesome. This! How is the HAF not a great case? Its probably the most popular case on OCN, and they know their shit. Especially because this one is a full ATX, and plenty of air flow.
