noobsteak 9 Posted May 24, 2011 So I just got my new laptop today and everything was working fine... except for my wireless internet. I have plugged it into the router directly and everything works fine. The problem is that when I am connected to my wireless network, I lose connection about every 20 minutes. It then takes about another 20 minutes for it to reconnect. I use comcast and have called them. They said it was that I had too many devices accessing my wireless router. I then turned off all the devices in my house and I still had the same problem. The error that pops up says to check my access point, but I have done this and reset everything at least 10 times. I hope its has nothing to do with the wireless card in the laptop. Any help you guys could give me asap would be greatly appreciated.
iyedol 16 Posted May 24, 2011 We need more info ... are you using the comcast router for wireless or a third party router i.e Linksys, Netgear, Dlink etc... WPA, WEP, no security. How far away are you when it disconnects?
noobsteak 9 Posted May 24, 2011 I am using the comcast modem and router. It has a WPA security that I know is right. It disconnects from any distance, even when it is about two feet away from the router I am using.
Clay 24 Posted May 24, 2011 Try a new router. Go to McDonald's and try connecting there and see if it does it. If it does, you need a new router.

If it works fine at another spot, do a factory reset on your router. (Unless it's both a modem and router - don't jack up your modem)
iyedol 16 Posted May 24, 2011 If you have access to the router try changing the wireless channel to from 6 to 1 or 11. Also I know you have a new laptop but check the maker of the laptop website for an updated driver for your network card.
noobsteak 9 Posted May 25, 2011 Don't know what was going wrong with it. I brought it over to my neighbor's house and it worked fine all day long. Then when I brought it home it continued to work fine. Guess it was bad luck.
