No computer repair people will care if you have illegal files on your computer. Get a new hard drive, format and install Windows on it, mount the old hard drive, copy the important data. Done.

You could even download a copy of any major Linux distro (Ubuntu works quite well for this OOB) and back up files that way.

Frostwire > Limewire
Like not paying for the music? Like downloading it from limewire? That kind of illegal music.

I lol'd. Who uses Gnutella anymore? Amber is a cool guy esh gets her music from shitty gnutella and does afraid of taking her computer to a nerd to fix it.

True, True. They fucked the PS3 over for some reason after the orange box came out for it. But they still make games for X-box 360.

I don't care about macs. >:| and Jared I can't just go out and buy a new computer. Not rich like you. And I'm not the one afraid of going somewhere to have someone fix it. My dad is the one who is. I just think he's using the music excuse so they don't find the real cause of the virus (my guess would porn.)

Yeah so apparantly Monday night while I was sleeping, my dad got a virus on the computer. Wouldn't surprise me if it was a porn virus, but it deleted the recovery file in the system 32 and so we can't do anything with it. Can't take it to get fixed because of all the illegal music we have.

Anyways, you won't see me on vent/steam/games until we can get it fixed or buy a new one. I'll still be on the forums and on xfire. But I know you'll be sad cause you won't get to hear my constant talking(:

But yeah, just wanted to let you know. Oh and how convient is it that when I got home Tuesday I had just gotten back from buying a webcam. But maybe it works on the xbox. Who knows.

Aww that sucks. Maybe next time you should get a anti virus. That sucks you just got a webcam lol. Thats weird.

We have an anti virus, but it didn't catch this one. Oh and my mom wants to blame it on YouTube for the virus since she thinks there is no games on our computer. She always blame it on us.

Well amber what you could do is what I did, get someone's drive (I used my fail drive) and just load up windows, from there you can access your files and move whatever you want to somewhere safe. You have to set administrative rights and/or bypass that restrictions if any (a simple google search should suffice)

However considering how you seem to lack some technical expertise I'd say just bring it to the store and get data recovery from a pro.

I only did it myself because I had 2 people guiding me through it all and I've been fixing my computer problems since I had a computer.

This is why external storage drives are win.

So when your comp gets screwed, all you really have ON YOUR COMPUTER ,are games and other programs, when all your other important files and other shit is saved and untouched. So when you reinstall windows all you have to do is reinstall the games and hook the drive up to your computer again.

But other then that. How would they know the music is illegal if its in iTunes or whatever you use. Its not like you have a folder on your desktop named "ILLEGAL MUSIC THAT I DONT WANT PEOPLE TO FIND" with all your DL'ed music in it............right?

Fuck that. I keep all my games in my External hard drive. I let the "important" shit get fucked over first(it's my computer, don't really have much "important" shit on here lawl).

Amber. I hate you, but I'm going to give you a suggestion.

I'm sure it's been said, but this happened to a buddies comp before, not as badly, but same thing basically.

Turn off the computer. Open the side panel. Take out your hard drive. Take your hard drive to a friend's house who has GREAT anti-virals. Plug your hard drive into his computer as a slave drive, load the computer up from HIS hard drive. Run the anti-virals he has, all of them.

Problem "should" be solved. If not, find out what virus it was, look for how to get rid of it on a THIRD, yes I said THIRD, computer. The reasoning behind that is that some viruses will be designed to watch you. When you search for it and how to get rid of it, it can change it's programming or send an "o shit" kind of code to just over power your computer with a bunch of other mini-virals.

Good luck.

You wouldn't hate me if you actually talked to me and tried to get to know me >.>. But what I don't understand is how you can take out a harddrive that is built into your computer.

And the illegal music, we have both limewire and frostwire sitting on our desktop. Pretty sure that would tell them what we download. But again, my dad's decision. Not mine.

Your thinking of the mother board amber.

The hard drive is about the size of a small/medium router and can weigh 4-10 lbs depending on its model and age. It is a detachable piece of hardware normally located under the CD Drive and near/around where the floppy drive is. This is considering that you have a normal PC tower, and not a laptop... or mac, because I know jack about mac.
