What do you do for a living?

Recommended Posts

I'm stuck in that place where I can't decided if I want to go to college for something else, or just stick with what I got. So i'm curious to hear what everyone does for a living, or plan on doing.

I'm a clinical engineer. I repair medical equipment... it's fun sometimes. You ever seen a fly shocked with a defibrillator, or x-rayed your head?

Wait if all you do is repair, are you not a TECHNICIAN? (Pretty sure you are no engie if you have not been to college)

I am a receiving manager at "a store". Youngest there ever has been here. Lots of laborious task, but it is indeed fun.

In the military i'm called a Biomedical Equipment Technician. On the civilian side, were called Clinical Engineers. The reason being, is because while our main job is to repair and service medical equipment, we are also on the board at major hospitals in helping decide which medical equipment is bought, and have the same schooling/required knowledge as engineers we just don't create the equipment (well I've known a few to do it on their spare time).

Basically, to repair equipment you have to know how it works, and knowning how it works (is half the battle) is knowing the engineering behind it. Therefore were "engineers" just not the type you know.

(I never said I didn't go to college)

I head to college dmacc for computer design. I help my mom with her business and kinda run her job so she does nothing and gets paid a lot lol

I've thought about taking up computer design as a hobby, just so I could do a little freelance here and there. But i'm just not overly creative... at all.

I will be starting my second year of college in about a month, originally was in a Pharmacy program, but scrapped that for Computer Science/Engineering.

For the past few summers I have been working for this tree removal company, so I'm a lumberjack for now :-P My uncle also owns an insurance agency, so I can work for them during the school year (from home in my pajama pants!) since tree work is just seasonal. I also just got hooked up with a job at People's United Bank for while I am in school, hopefully they can hook me up with a job once I graduate with my degree.

Oh, and I may or may not sell herb while school is in session.

I am a US Army Telecommunications Engineer (otherwise known as Functional Area 24). I just went over 7 years time in service in June of 2009. I'm currently stationed at Fort Gordon, GA and will be going to 82nd Airborne Division in July 2010.

I rave for a living. People pay me millions of dollars and give me tons of X and tell me to rave in their shed. I have to provide the music sadly.

Right now, I can't find a job. I'm waiting on one that I apparently have a good chance of getting.

oh yeah? OH YEAH!?! Just messing with ya.

I was slated for nuke school in the navy, after being literally begged to accept the job (I had $80,000 of sign up bonuses WRITTEN OUT for me on paper).

Turns out 20% hearing loss in one ear beats out becoming a huge asset to your country.

They would rather take a convicted felon over me. Fucking sad.

Second that.

I work at a New England localized venue called Weathervane Seafoods. We pack and distribute every piece of food or anything else that goes to the restaurants.

I'll be working in a McDonald's spitting on everyone's food before I give them out in a few years.

Well you go to college and you will learn to be I guess. I just have had so much fun doing that kind of stuff.

It is sad that they would do something like that, I know that they only use a convicted felon over you is because they could care less if he/she died. But YOU on the other hand have a future and would not want to waste the talent....

My major is is Network Administration, with a full CCDA/CCNA/CCENT compliment.

Oddly enough, the various Cisco Certs were never required for the degree.... I found it odd.

My minor is now going to officially be Computer Forensics... nobody's porn will be safe again (thats literally why I took it, so I can learn proper ways to see what people are doing instead of the half ass way I do it now).

I'm also a ZCE, and I'll have an MCSE (Not the MCSA) eventually before I finish my BA.

I also have 6 years of enterprise Linux experience.
