Soundcards

Recommended Posts

Anyone have a suggestion for one? I'm buying one for the first time and have no clue as where to begin? I mean the only name I can throw out is SoundBlaster, but I don't even know how good they are.

I'd go with with either HT Omega or AuzenTech. Both are very high quality cards. I'd try and stay away from Creative unless you can get a very high quality card without so much bloatware. The one thing Creative has going for them is EAX, but that's no biggie unless you're a professional gamer.

I'm pretty sure mine's discontinued, but this is what I use.

It gets the job done for me, 5.1 surround is really all I need.

Do a custom install. All I needed were the drivers, device control, EAX control, and speaker settings. Does everything I need it to.

I use a creative X-Fi, never had any problems with it. (except for the rust it gathered from sitting in storage for 2 years) I never actually looked at the performance gains (however small) it gave me, and really only bought it to help pull the load off the motherboard. But this was back when i was using a athlon 3700+.
