Syndicate Gamers Digest | Edition 2, Volume 1 Hey everyone, it's been such a long time since our last digest, sorry for the long and anticipated wait but here you guys go. Hopefully you all enjoy. I. Community i. Recent Server Instability and Downtime As many of you have noticed sG's servers have been facing a lot of downtime and crashes recently. We as staff are trying our best to keep our servers up and running but we hope that you will bear with us until then while we get everything together. Once again, we apologize for all the recent downtime and crashes but we are actively working to prevent them from happening. Hopefully we can get this fixed soon and continue expanding our CS:GO Division. ii. Academic Study OK sG, you have a chance to become a part of academic history. There is significant research available on MMORPG clans/guilds (WoW, Everquest, etc...). However, there isn't much research data on clans not dependant on MMORPGs, namely FPS clans like sG. sG will be conducting a study to acquire baseline demographics about you, your gaming habits, and your daily life. Learning about who you are will give sG a better idea about how to cater to our core population. This study IS COMPLETELY voluntary! Your real life identity will not be asked in this study, only your forum account name... IF YOU WANT SOME FREE SHIT! The Return of the PMs to Staff Forum In light of recent community events, the PMs to staff forum has been brought back. Thanks to an IPB update and some tweaking work done by the forum administration team, we have finally been able to re-implement this. We hope bringing this back will be useful to the community in voicing their concerns/complaints in regards to the community in a private and confidential manner. We will keep your thread (and it's contents) between you and staff, keep everything confidential and keep you anonymous unless you otherwise request so (if it's concerning another player/admin/member) or if it becomes absolutely necessary to identify you. Expansion Introduction As many of you have noticed, sG has made a formal switch to the new Valve game, CS:GO. As of the time of this post, Jailbreak, Surf, Minigames, and Zombie Escape have been switched over. We also started/brought back a SE Rotation server. Remember, these servers are in BETA - they are working for the most part but there are things here and there that don't work. We are in the process of converting the majority of our CSS servers to CS:GO and possibly opening some new servers if our current CS:GO servers can start standing by themselves (i.e. consistent stream of population and reasonable administration of servers). b. Administrative Abilties As of right now, your CSS Admin package (or CSS Rank Admin) will transfer over to the CS:GO server. If your admin isn't working please contact one of two people: - Marvin for all paid/subscriber admins and supporter packages - Mitch for all staff/rank admins We would like to also note that reserved slots are not working, we are working on that as of right now. c. Plan of Action We now have Jailbreak, Surf, SE Rotation, Minigame, and Zombie Escape servers. What we as staff see right now that would be best for the growth and expansion of this community is for us to get enough randoms to become regulars on those servers and hopefully with the community's help we will have a self-sustaining population and decent administration on each of those servers. Once that is done, we can start considering to expand to different mods (e.g. Deathrun, Scoutsknives, whatever the community wants). We want to be successful in things we know sG/UV in the past has shown success in and once we do so we can start getting our feet wet on new frontiers. II. Management i. ChosenOne returning from an extended leave of absence (LOA) We would like to welcome back ChosenOne from his extended leave of absence, as many of you know Chosen has been busy with his real life military duties and his newborn child in the past few months and asked to be put on reserve for staff for a few months. Well, the time has come and he is officially back in full swing. Please join is in welcoming Chosen back into the team. ii. Dastan retiring as an Advisor We would also like to thank Dastan for his time served on staff. Dastan has been a key and essential part to TTT's success in the past two years and his work as an Advisor, Recruitment Officer and Server Officer reflects that. Unfortunately due to real life needs Dastan has been unable to put in as much time as he had before into this community and after much extended talks and efforts to find some sort of fair tradeoff we have decided to let Dastan go. Dastan, thank you for everything you've done in this community - the Garry's Mod Division would not have been the same without you. We wish you the best on your future endeavors. iii. Management Changes As of recent discussion, the advisor and recruitment officer positions will be combined. The staff are working on a staff roster/list for the community that we will release to you when it's ready. v. Server Officers There have been many changes in the SO Department within the past few months. First of all, we would like to congratulate all our new server officers: Wintergreen, X-Men, Polloloco, Sakata, Ivanns, Bulletford, JC4X4, Gonepostal, Youngz, Dickshavist, Gianni, Archy, Noobzilla. We would also like to thank the server officers who have left in the past few months and thank them for their service: Salv, Marine, Darkpredator, Tex, Taboo. III. Game Servers i. sG | CS:GO Jailbreak With the recent move to CS:GO, our Jailbreak server has seen almost constant levels of large population. With these large levels of population also come people who have previously played on other Jailbreak servers that have different rules than ours. I understand the level of freekilling has been frustrating, but we must ask our current admins to spend time on the server and help the new CTs learn how we do things at sG's Jailbreak. As far as maps go, if you find a Jailbreak map for CS:GO that you think should be added to the server, make a post in this thread. ii. sG | CS:GO Rotation Due to popular demand we've set up a CSGO Rotation Server! There are a few changes from the vanilla package of the game which were added to make the server more appealing to newer players, and these changes can be found here. If you have any suggestions to improve or concerns about our Rotation server, please post them here. Vanilla servers are generally hard to populate and any serious suggestions will be considered. A poll has also been added here to get the community's opinion on a few of these settings. Happy hunting! ~Mimic iii. sG | Warcraft Source #1 As most of you are aware, development has really slowed down on Warcraft Source #1. With the release of Guild Wars 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the population on the server has about halved. There has also been a lot of questions recently on whether or not Warcraft Source #1 will be moved over to our new Counter-Strike: Global Offensive division, and the answer is complicated. Unfortunately development on EventScripts (the essential plugin for Warcraft: Source) has basically stopped, and the guys at www.warcraft-source.net have announced that Warcraft: Source will not be supported with EventScripts on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This means that our best course of action at this time is to continue developing Warcraft Source #1 on Counter-Strike: Source until either Warcraft: Source is compatible with Source.Python, or until we can figure out a way to get Warcraft: Source working on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with EventScripts. ~Mimic iv. sG | Trouble in Terrorist Town I'm sure all of you are annoyed by the constant lag in the server, along with a few other problems. With a few modifications to the server, performance should increase, but we aren't out of the dark yet. Garry's Mod 13 is planned to be released in 2 weeks (probably longer), but we will be moving to GMOD 13 Beta as soon as we can, since it is now a public beta. An announcement for that will come soon. - blob v. sG | Minecraft Division We are sure you are all wondering when the server will open. Well, to be honest, we don't have an answer for you. The minecraft team does not want to release the server until it is ready. We don't want you to get half a product, so if that means it takes an extra day, week, ect, then we will take it, so you guys get the best server we can offer. What we can tell you is we are getting close! Plugins are about 80% done. We have an amazing spawn and a couple other villages almost complete, and we are now mainly working on the quests and npc's. Come check out the updates in the minecraft section of the forums for more details and some screenshots, you will be amazed! - ctark vi. sG | CS:GO Minigames The Minigames server has been moved to CS:GO. Due to the low population while on CS:S and the fact that there are few minigame CS:GO servers we felt that there was a niche we could fill in CS:GO. We are hopping Minigames will once again become as popular as it once was. vii. sG | CS:GO Zombie Escape The Zombie Escape server has been moved to CS:GO. We were once the top Zombie Escape server in CS:S. There are many theories as to why we lost our population and we won't go into discussing those. We are hoping CS:GO can be a new fresh start. Many of the current Zombie Escape servers have more than 150 ping(at least in midwest USA). Hopefully we can attract some Zombie Escape players who are looking for a lower latency alternative. viii. sG | Battlefield 3 Division It is with regret that we inform you that after many failed attempts at starting a BF3 server for sG, our unsuccessful tries have brought this division to a close. We would like to thank all the community and staff who were dedicated in helping all they could in getting our BF3 server up and running as well as getting it populated - but we all realized that we were not getting anywhere and it would be best if we just shut down the division. Thank you all for helping us try this out, it was wanted by a lot of the community - unfortunately we were just short of being successful. ix. sG | DayZ Division We would also like to extend our apologies to the closure of the DayZ server. Since its launch, the DayZ server was consuming a lot of the dedicated server box's resources for a small fraction of the community that played in the DayZ server. Our DayZ server was partially populated and active but not enough to justify us cutting resources from other servers. Given that fact, we also have shut down our DayZ division, and would like to thank everyone who showed interest in the game and played on the server with us. IV. Ranks & Recruitment We would like to congratulate all our members that have recently received a new rank recently, also we would like to welcome our new member into the clan!
