  1. Ah, yes, you are correct regarding Warez. I overlooked that while I was looking.

Regardless, I do not agree that the mere mention of the possibility of downloading something that is copyrighted should be against forum policy. I do, however, believe that any information regarding how to pirate, where to pirate or the best ways to pirate anything should remain against forum policy.

No, it should not come to the need of a DMCA order. However, as per my previous statement, I don't see that we need to go so far as to completely ban any and all talk about piracy. Piracy happens all the time; do I think it's right? No, no I do not. Do I think it's good? No. Do I think we should allow the advertisement of piracy? Again, no. I know this may sound hypocritical but that's the way I look at it.

tl;dr - No posting of links, torrents or trackers I completely and 100% agree with. No talking about piracy at all, I do not agree with.

These are just my opinions, of course. I'm not saying you're wrong, merely stating my view point.

Understood, all people are entitled to their opinions... However, this thread was the reason I will no longer donate... it really wasn't meant to start a flameware... it's my reasoning for cancelling my subscription. I like the community, but i dont like some of the actions of the more senior members...

  2. i dont need a network drive

just one that i can burn an image of my internal to every week or so just incase

the one you picked looked good then, i've never heard of it, but it looks nice :D

I only like the network versions to also ghost my laptop, media center, linux game machine, and windows dev box...

for your situation, it sounds like what you picked is ok, but i personally would go with mario's suggestion. wd is a pretty reputable company lately.

  3. One more thing.

Since we currently do not have Google ads. The rule is currently invalid.

Please stop trolling my threads, if you have something valid to say, say it... but you argue anything said by anyone. It doesn't help in any way, but it also doesn't support you... just chill. I, as a software developer, do not like warez, if you do, cool, but a community that supports it loses my donation. That's what the thread is about and I ask that you respect my feeling on the matter.

  4. Instead of addressing the issue as to why a member of this community wants to leave and stop the donation you guys have started a flame war. I see why he has said that the maturity level of people is below what was expected. Why not try to come to a workable conclusion so that both parties are happy. No no we can’t do that lets back our friends up. Let point out that he hasn’t been here long enough to be in the clique

I really appreciate your open-mindedness Apathy, with the comments from the L2 and above members, it's good to see that some don't just join the bandwagon.

  5. I believe what they said when they revised the rules to include torrenting was - not in these words - no torrents, links or trackers are to be posted on the forums as it would violate the Google ToU for the Google Advertisements we were supposed to have on the site.

With regards to the saying "You could always download Windows 7" as long as nothing is said about where it could be downloaded the statement is merely a generalization that anyone, anywhere at any time could have thought of. Just because it's stated doesn't make it illegal. What I mean is if I were to say "Hey, why would you buy Windows 7 when you could just torrent it" I am doing nothing wrong. If I were, however, to say "You can download Windows 7 from www.isuckbecauseipiratesoftware.com" THAT is another matter.

I'm not arguing the fact that you were stating rules were being broken. You have every right to say that you believe rules were being broken. On the same note, however, I have every right to say that I disagree and see no rules that were technically broken.

There is nothing that Microsofts lawyers can do unless someone is retarded enough to post information regarding a location at which someone can download the OS. Furthermore, legally they are required to send a DMCA - Cease & Decist order and allow a certain period of time for the recipient of such an order to comply before they could take any further legal action.

When i posted my comment in the thread, I first clicked "rules" and copied/pasted the rule regarding warez... it states:

    B. Threads must not contain any around, close, or directly to these topics:

    ---Warez

Saying "find a windows7 torrent" would be around/close to the topic of warez. If that rule is changed, i will stfu. until then, i dont see

no torrents, links or trackers are to be posted on the forums as it would violate the Google ToU for the Google Advertisements we were supposed to have on the site.

in the rules anywhere. I copied and pasted directly from the link.

You can disagree with me, i support that, and those type of discussions should immediately go to PM or ventrillo (im not in there, but i will boot windows and get in if needed) disagreements between admins should be kept in private, to not detract from the overall structure of the organization (business 101 anyone?)

You are also correct that MS can not do anything until they issue a DMCA C&D... should it come to that though? A mature community will prevent that type of action being necessitated by preventing the behavior.

I may be wrong, but I feel that Coinstar would prefer a preventative organization rather than a reactive... Getting heat from MS over some bullshit is really not what the community needs.

  6. I was in-game with you about an hour ago.

the words you said are[paraphrasing] "I told her I am much hotter than her" That's the Egocentric.

Your Holier than Thou attitude is shown every time you post.

Militant, you and Chosen basically created a recruitment thread for the military ousting all negative comments.

dude, we never denied any negatives in the military... you had a perspective that I provided corrections to multiple times. I also don't really give a shit if guys join the military or not... but if they do, i want them to know their options and get the best possible choices/options they can. That's what the military thread was about... recruiters and there to mislead you... we came in to tell the truth. You threadjacked it with ignorant comments. A prime example is the guy who thinks he will go from highschool to flightschool and i showed him the "real" path and offered to contact his recruiter AND post the phone recording for him. You consistently detract from purposeful threads, I'm asking you nicely to please desist on threadjacking here.

This thread is about why "i" specifically am ceasing my donations... it really has nothing to do with you or your opinions.

  7. it's got horrible ratings, for good reasons, the power adapter WILL (100% promise) fail. no doubts there. however, for the size and capabilities (gigabit and TB size) they're pretty good deals... if the PSU fails... you can get a replacement from lacie for about 7$ +2.99 (yup.. been there) so if you gotta pay 10$ a year... idk.. i thought it was worth it, but i think WD has some better solutions out now...

Lacie is pretty good for the price though, which is why i bought it (i was strapped at the time on cash) WD def has some badass network drives though...

  8. Driz, you are by your own admission, a drunk, egocentric holier than thou militant man. This is truth.

I drink, but not to excess... i'm not sure how your comments are relevant... i'm not sure when i ever admitted to being egocentric, holier than thou, or militant... but if you'd like to post links, I will gladly agree with your statements.

I don't lie, nor do i plan to, if i made a statement or took an action, i will either stand by it, or accept the repercussions of my actions. That is was maturity is all about.

Also, my post was about something serious that has been reported through legal means, please avoid threadjacking this one. Your comments aren't useful or helpful against or for... so please just stop and post somewhere else.

  9. a.) The thread was not deleted, it was was moved to a non-postable section of the forums. Do I agree with it? No, I don't. But it is still viewable and, therefore, I do not see why it is such a big deal.

b.) It's not against the law to suggest to someone that they could pirate software. Nobody provided the means to pirate the software, hence the reason Google is not liable for the "Results 1 - 10 of about 26,800,000 for windows torrent." that turns up merely by running a search for "Windows Torrents."

    c.) Quit trolling.

I'm not issuing an infraction for trolling as I do not feel it's warranted at this point in time however I would like to ask that you refrain from any further trolling. And before you say "I's not troooooolling!"

    That is trolling.

Edit: Edited for ease of reading.

I agree, it is trolling, and it's completely true; and it was directly in response to his trolling me. facts are facts, and what i stated is true until he can prove otherwise.

you're also correct in that it isn't against the law to suggest criminal activites.. in fact, i can call my friends right now and suggest they goto someone, let's say Clay's, house and murder his whole family and I haven't broken any law... is it wrong? yes. Same if I say "go google for win7 torrent and use it, but don't pirate the software" uhm really? it's still suggesting someone do something illegal, which, according to the current posted forum rules, it not allowed.

We stated that the rules were being broken, which they were. You have no grounds to argue that. Legally, im sure the forum isn't liable, but it's been reported to Microsoft twice now, and we can allow their lawyers deal with that since the forum's moderators chose not to.

Also, google is frequently sued for what their search engine provides... a simple "google" of google lawsuit will show that... An organization is liable in the US for any content they provide. This is US law and not debatable outside of a court of appeals.

  10. indeed, if there's no wrongdoing occurring keep it up...

My whole point is the rules currently state, nothing remotely close to piracy is allowed... if that's the case, what i said is backed up... if what clay says is true... adjust the rules to say "supporting piracy is ok as long as links aren't provided"

I will support whichever rules are set in motion for the duration of my stay in the community.

  11. i have a question for you if i do get a HDD is their anyway to take like a copy of my current HD and put it on the external so if the current one fails and i cant retrieve anything from it i can just get a new internal and copy the stuff from the external?

WD has some network storage solutions that are fairly cheap and offer this type of functionality. Lacie makes cheaper solutions but without the one button backup that WD offers. I have a lacei 1TB gigabit backup that i purchased online for around 100$... i'm pretty happy with it so far.

I also use norton ghost with this and put my images on the hd. I can restore any of my 4 PCs from the network drive using ghost in this manner. I also stream tv episodes recorded from my media center over the same drive. The possibilities are nearly endless.

Good luck with this, make sure you do some research as this looks like it will be pretty important to you.

  12. I am no longer donating to this site due to the immature managers among it:

, this is a gaming website. Not a goddamn anti-piracy website. I wasn't asked about my stance on piracy when I got this title. Nor were any of the other staff members. BAWWW to microsoft all you want. I don't care. I was stating what the rules say. No one posted a link to a torrent. That would happen to be both against the rules and illegal. However, me saying "blah blah blah torrented XP." is completely within the confines of our current rules. Feel free to keep up the failtrolling with me. I'm pretty sure I'll win.

And Driz, I pay for things if I think they deserve my money. Why do you think I've boughten nearly every game ever produced by Valve ever? Because they're great. If I wouldn't have gotten HL2 in the package with CSS, would I have torrented it? No. Because it's well worth my cash.

Thread locked. Go take your QQ somewhere else.

You want to delete a thread because it was reported to microsoft... grow some fucking balls.

Clay talks shit to me while i merely try to enforce rules that are CLEARLY spelled out for the forums. If this forum does not support the rules, then change them. It's easy. Piracy is piracy, clay's comments on it made absolutely no sense, but his obvious misuse of the English language (he boughten some stuff ya'all) clearly show his age and intelligence. My subscription is ended until this type of bullshit is dealt with.

Also, Clay, you won't ever win, Im more intelligent, more qualified, and just a better all around person. so try to be highhanded, you fail. My credentials speak for themselves. I can also back up ALL of my credentials, what can you say?

If the forum admins want to support saying "pirate this software" and consider it ok because a link wasn't posted, fine. make that clear in the rules; it just means you lose my 15/mo.

    Hello,

a forum group I belong to is suggesting to members that they download torrents of Windows 7. I attempted to dissuade them from this course of action, but senior admins supported it. The discussion is at http://www.joinuv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20267. I am wondering about the legality of this. The forum does not support piracy, but they support suggesting to members to search torrents. Is this acceptable behavior within the EULA? Thank you.

  13. wtfever you guys are pirates, if you violate an eula you are pirates. no discussion. if these foums support that, i no longer donate. simple. i am a software developer, and i do no respect pirate nor those who support piracy. i'm done on this topic.

Oh, The Parallax Consortium sounds cool too..

If you're like one of the few people who actually in all reality think parallax means laxatives you can go show your lack of intelligence somewhere else.

I'd throw more names out but people are always going to bitch so why bother

I dont think parallax means laxatives but i do know it's a reference to geometry when determining distance.... based on that... i dont understand it's use in the clan name? is there an alternate meaning? I have a strong math background so maybe im biased towards one definition.
