The Doctor Zed got a reaction from Oreo in Videogames as Art
My answer to that is indie games, and "real" art sometimes fetches OBSCENE amounts of money that even ubisoft or EA couldnt get out of a AAA release. And depending on who comissioned the art, if anyone, the artist may never see any of that money. While I do agree with you about it ceasing to become art once the vision is lost. Quite usually the company makes the huge bucks while the "creators" just keep getting paid what they always have at Game Company Inc.

The GeForce Experience just came out of closed beta. It is only for those that have an nVidia GeForce graphics cards but it will detect your games and optimize all the settings for the game you choose. Here are the details if you are interested.
    Auto-Optimize Your Games
Want to know the best settings to play your games? GeForce Experience will figure it out for you. GeForce Experience connects you to NVIDIA’s cloud datacenter to download optimal game settings tailored to your PC based on your CPU, GPU and monitor. Optimal settings maximize image quality while maintaining great performance so you get the best experience. A built-in interactive screenshot viewer helps you learn more about each setting and their benefits.
    Keep Drivers Up To Date
The GeForce Experience application automatically notifies you of new driver releases from NVIDIA. With a single click, you’ll be able to update the driver directly, without leaving your desktop.

Well, he and I have argued for dozens of hours about video games, economics, and art. I'm not gonna share my opinion at the mo' - I'll let you all mull this over and respond first if you want.

They can be, but they aren't always. I don't understand or agree with the concept that something being made for a profit precludes it from being art. I also don't think that you can really say that all games could be said to be made to appeal to the lowest common denominator. There are games that make huge profits and have cult followings that don't even come close to falling into that category.
Indie games aside (which would be the biggest counter to that idea), take a game like Dark Souls. The average person who plays CoD and Madden on their 360 pretty much exclusively would probably hate it, yet they still see great business.

    Two things:
    1) Video Games can be considered an artform, but just like any form of 'art' (movies, books, paintings, music, anything really), they're mostly made for the $$ first. Sometimes you'll get a game that's meant to be played for the story/music/aesthetic/philosophical meaning (Persona series comes to mind), the main purpose is always going to be cash. Unless its free to play, of course.
