Jimmy Kimmel Reveals Details of His Son’s Birth & Heart Disease

Warning: This is video a heart-wrencher.

My cousin was actually born with a similar pre-existing condition and was in and out of surgery for most of his life. From the time he was born, the doctors said he wouldn't live a normal life and would have to continue seeing doctors for most his life to check in on his heart. Around 4, he started looking better and maybe normal for once. He could finally run around with us in the backyard and play soccer or football with us without having to worry about how hard he was working his heart. Things were looking good and he got the care he deserved. He even won a trip to Disneyworld through the Make-A-Wish Foundation and got to have a wicked time with the family.

However around 7 years old, he started to have heart troubles again and had to take it easier. My Aunt and Uncle went back into the same routine... in and out of hospital care. They spent most of his life trying to get him the best treatment they could afford and spent a fuck ton of time traveling to new hospitals out of province and staying with him during every procedure. Finally back in 1999, when he was only 8 years old, he had heart complications on the ride home from the cabin and didn't make it home. My Aunt and Uncle, along with the many doctors did their best to try and get him 100% healthy but he just didn't have it in the cards. Fortunately, with our health care system, he was able to at least live some of his youth with all the care he got from specialists and Children's Hospitals.

I can't imagine what my Aunt and Uncle would have had to go through if they didn't have help from our universal health care system -- considering how hard it already was. Thankfully, they were covered for all the trips and expenses to see specialists and the time spent in Children's Hospitals around Canada. They certainly wouldn't have been able to do it by themselves and I know they're grateful for it.

Wow both these stories are sad. I hope your family I doing alright and I fully agree that money shouldn't dictate if someone can save their child's life. This is why we need a strong health care system that can affordable to many families regardless of income and any factors.

I could tell that he passed away and truly it really got me hard emotionally and not many things do. Wish he could've had a better life.
