Scrub

Looking to upgrade my CPU

Recommended Posts

I can't decide between an I7 6700k and the newer Ryzen 1700. Personally I'm leaning towards the i7 because I can just plop it into my computer and its good to go. (theoretically).

But I guess what I'm afraid of is buying the wrong processor, I use my PC for gaming a majority of time, but i'm not sure whether to go with 8 Core 3.0 GHz or 4 Core 4.0 GHz.

The i7 is also ~50$ cheaper through a local microcenter.

Thanks for input.

you aren't going to get your money out of the upgrade if you get the I7 you listed. you are only getting 1 GHZ more (if you dont over clock it). If you upgrade to a  i7-7700K you will see a little bit more performance 1.5 GHZ but once again in my opinion not worth the $350. Getting an 8 core would be the best thing but you will have to upgrade your mobo. AMD AM4 socket just came out so any motherboard you buy in that chip set will be good for a while and the processors will be cheaper for the performance they give (more bang for your buck).

see any errors in reasoning let me know, i will fix.

What's your setup Scrub? What kind of games you want to play? Are any of your games you want to play or playing running at less than desirable frames?

@King ET my mobo isnt compatible with the 7700k, or atleast every site I checked told my otherwise.

I found an i7 6700k for 280 at a local place, i wouldnt even consider it for 350

Edit: @ThatOllieWhoDies

Currently i5 6400 2.7ghz

1060 6gb - love it.

I play mostly arma, star citizen, rainbow six, and forza. (cpu heavy games)
