Server Maintenance - HOST

Recommended Posts

Staff, please ensure your events are not going to be impacted and reschedule if they are. Ensure any files you have opened/unsaved on the servers are closed/saved or you will lose them.

Our date is August 14th. Servers will all be shut down (except the site hopefully) at 8PM CST (2000 CST). The server should come back up on their own, but if they dont, we will bring them back up asap after maintenance.

We have officially begun the migration of our Chicago
facilities. All Chicago servers will be migrated to our new Chicago
location; a higher-grade Tier-III and SSAE16 Type II accredited facility,
this enterprise-grade facility offers increased power availability, access
to additional upstream transport providers, a 4x increase in network
availability, and improved environmental controls. Additionally, we will be
implementing new core routing infrastructure from Juniper to ensure that
the absolute best stability, uptime, and service quality is provided to you
and your customers.

Beginning August 13th & August 14th at 8PM Central Daylight Time, we will begin

the migration process.

Each system will be powered down (graceful shutdowns will be performed),
carefully transported to the new facility by our engineers, and powered
back up. We estimate that the process will take approximately 4 hours to
complete for each server, although the exact amount of time required will
vary, and we ask that all clients plan for downtime of up to 8 hours in
case of unforeseen issues. The migration will continue each evening,
beginning at 8PM CDT, and ending each morning at 4AM CDT until all servers
have been migrated. The total amount of downtime experienced by each server
will vary based on its location in our current facility, but we expect that
most systems will be down for no more than 4 hours, and that the greatest
impact should not exceed a maximum of 8 hours.

ALL CHICAGO SERVICES WILL BE IMPACTED

Prior to the start, I will be shutting down all VMs. We have some failover in place, that has not been fully tested yet. I expect the website to remain accessible during the outage but nothing else.
