fontaine 1744 Posted June 21, 2014 So my Steelseries Siberia v1's died the other day. I've been using my Sennheiser HD 280s but I don't really like how snug they are. While not "noise-canceling" headphones, they pretty much muffle out any outside sound, which I don't really like. I've been looking at the Siberia v2's since I loved my v1's but have explored some other options as well. I really want open-air headphones. These are the V2s: http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Siberia-Full-Size-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00DXTA5TG/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1403371230&sr=8-11&keywords=steelseries+siberiaThis version has the built in soundcard which is cool I guess. My other alternatives is just getting an open-air audiophile headphones and using my old v1 clip-on mic. A couple of Sennheiser options: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-504631-HD-558-Headphones/dp/B004FEEY9A/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1403371736&sr=8-4&keywords=sennheiser http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Headphones-Burl-Wood-Accents/dp/B0042A8CW2/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1403371736&sr=8-5&keywords=sennheiser Anyone have any suggestions or comments? Eddy 3887 Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) I purchased my snowball about 2 years ago for like $60, personally I feel headsets break very easily and don't last that long, buying the snowball saved me some money in the long run. EDIT:Here's a link to the snowball http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-Snowball-Microphone-Textured/dp/B000EOPQ7E/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1403375893&sr=8-5&keywords=snowball Edited June 21, 2014 by Eddy 1 Destin reacted to this

Sketchmaticx 3170 Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) just get some good headphones with a zalmann clip on, 100% better than a headset if you want open-air i recommend ath-ad700s, i use these and have for a while. they're purple so it's kinda tacky but w/e. also, i like bass. these have no bass at all. a plus of the no bass is that i feel like i can hear more shit in CS, but i don't play often anymore so i guess that doesn't matter. took about 40-50 hours of use to get used to them, but that shouldnt be a problemo. http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-AD700-Open-air-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B000CMS0XU http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/headphones/567089b73c33056f/index.html newegg isnt selling them right now, but they usually sell them for like ~$100 if you can wait, if not, just go on ebay or some shit. or just buy any other headphones, theyre all the same in the end if youre just gaming n shit Edited June 21, 2014 by Sketchmaticx
Dyscivist 5686 Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) 598s are real nice, especially if you have some Schiit for them. Edited June 21, 2014 by Dyscivist 4 Dylan, Dojima, camelFun and 1 other reacted to this
fontaine 1744 Posted June 21, 2014 So I'm thinking the 558s since the 598s are a little over what I was wanting to spend (maybe still be convinced). For these do I need to buy an amp? Saw someone on reddit mentioning the xonos dg or dgx because its a sound card and amp. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
Dyscivist 5686 Posted June 21, 2014 You don't need to buy an amp, no. They'll sound a lot better if you buy a Schiit stack though, noticeably more-so than 558s.

Can you confirm this milord? Also if one wanted to enter the audiophile world where do you suggest starting Schiit wise? And please, speak to me as if I'm 5 and retarded. Magni and modi are more than fine for starters. You really shouldn't be buying anything more unless you're spending a ton on headphones.

kano donn 105 Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) You should never mod a headset. It's speakers. If you have purchased sensitive enough headphones, you can do anything you want with them. If you want surround sound, you just have to modulate the signal coming in. You also don't need a preamp board unless you wish to output to different sources. All eq, effects, and any other fuckery you wish to unleash upon your signal can all be done on the computer for cheaper. So what exactly do you want? A device for gaming or production level sound? If you want a headset, look for durability. Wireless usually last longer if the cord has given you issues in the past. If your ok with a cord, don't go wireless. SehLi 9 Posted June 29, 2014 I have the Sennheiser HD 558, they are great but i haven't really tried many other headphones.I've found that an audiophile made a forum post giving a detailed index on the many headphones he has tried, maybe this will help you.http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-update-4-17-2014-akg-k612-and-k712-pro-added-edits 1 Oreo reacted to this

fontaine 1744 Posted July 1, 2014 Yeah I'm just using my steel series Siberia v1 clip on mic on my 558s and they are working great. The Xonar dgx soundcard sounds great too. Kind of regretting not just spending 200$ on a a schiit DAC and amp and avoiding the soundcard but whatever Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

Dyscivist 5686 Posted July 1, 2014 Dunno if I mentioned this earlier but soundcards are pretty irrelevant and not worth spending money on.
