Xannon 0 Posted February 4, 2011 You could always try building a small area like a 4x4x3 space with doors at either end, one to outside and ones to your mineshaft and light it REALLY well. That will prevent ANYTHING in case something does spawn near you. Keep your chests in there too. Also, try making a landmark so you can always find your house.
